Thank god for these forums, they have just about every bit of info you could ever need.
That said, I have a few followup questions before I dive into this.

Q.1
I have the Pioneer 111D drive. Does this mean I should get DVD+R since I can booktype to DVD-rom? I recently purchased a 50-pack of Verbatim DVD-R that can write up to 16x. I have not opened them yet and do have the receipt, so if I would get a better burn quality by using DVD+R I would be willing to go back to the store and trade. The whole reason I got the drive was to maximize the compatibility and quality of my burns, so if having +R media would be better please let me know.

Q.2
I'm about to attempt the installation of Magic Keys II in my slim ps2 v14. I briefly put a key into slot 1 just to see how easy it would be to close the lid. Well, I could still close it but it did have some resistance on the right side of the lid. The sticky pads on the keys seem sort of thick, so I picked up some double-sided tape. Can anyone with my same setup comment on whether they kept the sticky pads on the keys or used tape? I was thinking the thinner tape might offer less resistance for the lid when closing it. I haven't attempted to put the keys in the other two slots, not looking forward to slot 3 though (that hole looks so small!).

Thanks for any help you can offer!

1. Verbatim owns, but the version of your ps2 matters more then the +r/-r designtation. I have a slimline, only use -r and have had 0 bad burns (not counting bad burns caused by my stupidity.) You cant booktype -r, so that shouldnt be a consideration. If you have an early version ps2 (1-4), +r is the way to go, and bit setting to dvd-rom is the iceing on the cake. In my experience any later verion ps2 likes -r, so do some experimenting. Always bit set to dvd-rom since your burner is capable of that (+r are needed to do this of course).

2.I have no clue bro, I use a flip top/swap magic 3.6 combo. Sorry I cant help there.

I have a silver slimeline v12 or v13 and Verbatim DVD+R 8x burnt at 4x works a treat for me.

Sounds like both types work, I guess I'll go ahead and keep the pack of Verbatim DVD-R's I got. I've got a slim ps2 also, so they should work well together. I'll be hooking up my pioneer optical drive and putting in the magic keys for swap magic to work tonight, so I may be back with more questions. :)

Thanks for the comments!

Well I have run into a problem. I am trying to upgrade my Pioneer 111D to this firmware 129 I have read about. The process fails, and I noticed on Pioneers site that it appears it is only for the black and silver version ( i have the white one ).

http://wwwbsc.pioneer.co.jp/product-e/ib...ev00001r_e.html

I searched around a bit and found another link with some more firmware, i just am not sure which one I should get. I can't tell if all the choices are for different versions of the drive or what. There is a 1.29 listed but I am kind of afraid to try it out

http://tdb.rpc1.org/#DVR111D

And now it seems my original attempt to upgrade the firmware that I got off the Pioneer site has caused my drive to no longer work, as I just hit eject and nothing happens now. It still shows up in My Computer though and DVD Decryptor still recognizes it as well...

sorry for the double-post, I don't see any way to edit what I just posted...

just wanted to say I rebooted and my pioneer drive seems to be working now, though whenever I try to burn anything I get i/o error and it doesn't work. Wastes my disks too because it says they aren't empty now. :(
