God of War 2 glitch?

Ok well I'm at the hall of atropis area and after i defeated Perseus and obtained the sheild thingy. I already attatched the sheild to the statue and got the statue to the whole in the bridge but when i go to turn the lever it says i die about 2 seconds after i start turning it. Any ideas on why i'm dying here?
