Hi there. ok i backed up the pursuit of happyness & rocky balboa onto my hard drive with dvd decryter. however, when i go to use the decrypter to write it it tells me this: there doesnt appear enough space on the disc to burn this image. Image size 4,169,920 sectors Disc size 2,295,104 sectors. Would u like to continue anyway. I am trying to copy the whole movie. so then i tried to open up the shrink then went to open disc image and selected the movie that way and it comes up with a message like this: DVD Shrink encountered an error and can't continue. failed to read file K:\Make a master copy for me\pursuit of happyness.MDS. Ty for your help

Hi lisapro15
Neither Shrink or Decrypter will handle these 2 movies.
Since you're trying to copy the whole the image size seems way off - the rip from decrypter should have been around 7 gigs not 4 gig.

In Shrink looks like you're opening the mds file and not the image (iso) file though I don't opening the iso in Shrink will work either.

The easiest thing would be to re rip these w/ DVDFab Decrypter(free) then open those files in Shrink. By default DVDFab will rip in file mode - leave that setting. If Shrink still has a problem for some reason with the file from DVDFab then you can use FixVTS or VobBlanker to correct.
But you need the movie ripped in file mode.

editted to add: DVDFAb is still undated to handle the new stuff.

Use RipIt4Me 1.7.1.0 if you can find a copy. Default settings and use 1-Click mode and the processed files open in Shrink for you. Have latest DVD Decrypter and Shrink loaded before installing RI4M.

DVDFab what? DVDFab Decrypter does okay, just sometimes needs the rip processed with FixVTS. If you meant Platinum, ... ;)

On both of the movies you mentioned-if you run the DVD Decrypter files
through FixVTS, then Shrink will open them. After running FixVTS I
wrote an ISO file with Shrink and then burned with Imgburn. Both
discs came out fine.

What did you use with DVD Decrypter?

With Pursuit Of Happiness, AnyDVD was running in the background. With
Rocky Balboa I just used DVD Decrypter. The thing that made both
work with Shrink was the FixVTS. Shrink would not open either one
without using that first. On one other really difficult movie, I had
to dump the file and run Decrypter again because there was a problem
with the new movie disc I was using-it was defective.

I only asked about the decryption because DVD Decrypter by itself is obsolete when it comes to the heavier ARccOS protection. DVD Decrypter needs to be used with RipIt4Me or AnyDVD to be successful with the heavier copy protections. As you mentioned, the AnyDVD + DVD Decrypter rips sometimes need processing with FixVTS. The FixVTS code is incorporated into the last RI4M, so the standalone FixVTS is no longer needed for processing.

Pacman I agree with everything you said. Lately I have found I am
having better success using the programs individually rather than
using RipIt4Me. I like RipIt4Me but have found sometimes it will not
successfully do movies that I have been able to do using each program
separately. Have no idea why. AnyDVD and Decrypter work well together when I need it, but don't always need it.
You know so much more about these processes than I do. I only figure
out what works by reading guides, posts, and experimenting. When I
find something that works well, I stick with it. I only occasionally
post for the newbies because sometimes I am so simple that some of
them have an easier time understanding what I'm saying and as I am
sometimes not ready for the more complicated explanations. Don't
mean to butt in. I appreciate all the gurus on this site more than
anybody.

Somebody around here uses the quote "Teach and learn". That's the way it works. Keep up the good work.

I don't know where you're going wrong, but I've yet to run into a DVD I can't back up using RI4M for decryption. You should be using version 1.7.1.0 in the 1-Click mode and your settings should look like those in the capture below.

Don't use ISO in the Rip Mode.

Will check my settings against your picture.
Have a question about one of the settings that maybe you can answer.
What is RipJacket_P folder? Haven't seen that explained and have
not seen anybody checking that.

The jacket is a picture folder with promo stills like the ones on a cover. They're not DVD compliant, so the transcoding software won't handle them. Most DVDs don't even have them.

Plain and simple, this is how I copied Rocky Balboa:

1. Install and/or open RipIt4Me (make sure you have both DVD Shrink & DVD Decrypter installed prior to this step - find all three via Google)
2. Follow the prompts and you will eventually end up at DVD Shrink where you can choose what you want to burn or not (i.e. French language tracks, etc.)
3. If you're using 4.7GB media like me and you don't need to see Stallone speak French, you'll end up at around 53% compression (the average viewer won't notice) and you will have lost about an hour of your life to save $16 at Target.

As for Pursuit of Happyness, use 8.5GB media and the latest versions of both AnyDVD & CloneDVD (available from slysoft.com) to copy - works like a charm!

Enjoy!

When in doubt, reboot!

no need for such high video compression, DVDFab HD Decrypter 3.1.1.6 (Full Disc Mode) on Rocky Balboa & Pursuit of Happyness followed by good ole' DVD Shrink for Main Movie only, no compression needed on either movie ie 100% video quality for both..

Each to their own, i do Main Movie only. if i want to watch the extras (very rare that i do as most extras are just padding to fill out the discs) i pop the original disc in the player.

edit- thinking about it i could have cut out the DVD Shrink step and selected Main Movie mode in DVDFab, i just happened to select Full Disc mode for both at the time..
