Hello all,
I have a difficult desicion to make between the playstation 3 and the 360 elite. I have borrowed both consoles and i still can't decide. The 360 i had was a core pack and it was having problems with turning on and the red rings. I really liked the controllers , nice feel to the hands. With the ps3 i wasn't that amazed i think it was because i expected more from it. I don't have a HDTV so i dont have much benefit from the consoles graphics wise for now. I like the xbox 360 for the games and the recently added HDMI, dvd upscailing and 120gb hdd because eventually i will have a HDTV. On the other hand i like the ps3 for its multimedia capabilities like video, music, photos and the new playstation home addition. Which do you think is the better deal for me? Ill eventually need the HD DVD add on for the 360 also. Another thing is does these consoles all come down to their formats? eg if HD DVD wins the format war and i have a ps3 will that mean they will stop developing Blu-ray media for it?
Thankyou.
Ferrarza

If you're not using a HDTV then I'd suggest the 360.
Right now the 360 offers more games. I wouldn't buy either console based on what media format it plays. It's still too soon to tell which will come out on top.
If br wins, MS already said they'd adapt. And if hddvd wins, Sony would still use the br for their games.

hmm thanks for your help but that would mean all the bd movies would be gone so current ps3 blu ray uses have just spent alot of money which hase gone to waste. How do you mean ms will adapt? Like have a blu ray addon? Also when will this format war end? its been going for a while now and i want to know which will remain and which will fail .
I would buy a console based on the format becuase ms and sony are backing different formats which means if you blow your money on one and the other wins your hd movies are gone. For me i dont just buy a console for the games i like the media capabilities and whichever format wins would be the better way to go.

i think that you should go with the 360. there are many more games. ps3 has motorstorm and resistance and thats it. xbox has many great games like gears pgr3 rainbow6 vegas. also coming out with Halo 3 and GTA 4. hd and blue ray are both good formats that have great quality so i would choose based on what games you would like to play.

it would be nice if the 65nm chips were in the elites but they arnt. and xbox live silver is free. you can use it for downloading anything from the market place and you can update you console to fix bugs and improve backwards compatability. but with silver you cant play online. you need gold for that. but the xbox comes with 2 1 month free trials so you can test it and see if you like it. and it is not realy that expensive. $40 for a year. thats pretty good.

actually $40, thats excellent. You are paying for a better online service rather than the playstation 3's. Sony has made a few wrong choices like their controller it needs some change it hurts your hand while playing and the motion sensing is terrible (especially in ridgeracer). I just really hope HD DVD wins. They have the better name and cheaper to make and to sell. People will think HD DVD is for HDTV's. And if hddvd does win it would make those hddvd ad-onns a great way to buy yourself into the next high def movies. (with the players working on PCs also)

I wouldn't buy a PS3 in at least a year time.
most of the PS3 games out can be bought xbox360 for half the price, not to mention all the 360 exclusives: 360 is definitely the #1 choice now

I meant don't buy a console right now based on format. You'll hear alot of "PS3 is better because it comes with Blu-ray..." or "360 is better because HD-DVD is cheaper to produce so it'll win...". None of that matters right now.
If you plan on getting a console real soon, the 360 would be the better choice given the price and available games.

I would have to say the 360 would be my choice (as it already was my choice) for a few reasons.
1. it can be modded so you can back up your games and play them
2. HD-DVD is easy to back up on standard DVD+R DL (about $2 each)with any dual layer burner. Blu-ray on the other hand have disc that are $15 each and the burner itself will cost you another $700. If you wanted to back up games to preserve your originals that is.
3. I am not sure how PS3 will work but Xbox Live offers more than just online gaming, like game maps and upgrades, movies & TV, dashboards, online arcade for classic games and i am sure a few other goodies i missed.
4. and as mentioned many more good games right now.

you can see upcoming games there. Mostly, as it has always been, each system will have a few exclsive titles. But overall they will carry most of the same games.

As far as the format war, attention should be paid to what the porn industry will be using. They were a big part in VHS beating betamax because of VHS,s higher capacity. Currently Sony is trying to bar the porn industry from using bd discs, while on the other hand they are getting full support for using the HD format. It won,t matter in due time anyway because of dual format players.

Your information is old, outdated and incorrect. Sony released a statement a while ago that said whoever stated that was giving misinformation. Not to mention the Porn Industry is not really adapting HD as it is hurting their industry in other aspects (shave bumps, black & blues, nicks/cuts, pimples etc).

Its not that outdated, I read it earlier this month... http://gameinvasion.comcast.net/gameinva...eration_dvd_war , if you can post the article where Sony denies these claims, I will stand corrected.
I agree with you about porn in HD, I wouldn't want to see it either, but just because a porn is on Blu-ray and HD-DVD's don't mean that it has to be in high def. You can fit more DVD quality movies on these disks, for instance, instead of 2 hours of porn, you can get 4, 6, or 8 hours of the same quality on one disk which is extremely marketable.

see thats what i am saying i think HD DVD will win because of he porn support and also cheaper to make cheaper to buy. for the consumer i think that 30gb is more than enough to hold data , movies etc. When will we actually know when this war ends?

In your article Sony admitted to not pressing porn titles which is what is pushing the porn industry away because the replication equipment is too expensive for them to buy themselves. They also said that its hard to find another replicator because of the influence of Sony and Disney's ban on replicating porn movies. Your article is basically the same as mine but I could have worded what I was saying about Sony better, they are not really trying to ban the porn industry from using BD's, but their policies are influencing a ban from them using BD's.

That was just one that I linked to quickly without a 100% proof read. There are many more as well as more recent with better info that goes more in depth. But the main point is this if it makes them money it will be available....that is business.
