Hey I have ps2.....old model, no modchip no swap and stuff. heard about this usb harddisk thing and it's really good but i wanted to know...will I be able to install backed up games or isos in harddisk and play them like originals. I think that if i have an iso and I burn it (it won't work on my ps2 ofcourse) will I then be able to install it on harddisk and play it with ps2??

thx

oh boy your going to be happy when I tell you this all you need in ordeer to play **cough** backup games and nintendo snes games and play thousands of songs and movies plus play games from a intternal hardrive and have swapmagic and hdloader few god thats alot of stuff if a few things

1 a internal hardrive <not a western digital because they dont fit> around 200 gb depends on how much games movie and music you want and ethernet adapter they run about 30$ look online for them EBAY and a memory card

ok once you get all those and put them to gether you download hdloader
0.8b iso from sksapps.com then put it on your internal hardrive that has to be hooked up to your computer and throw it on ther (((((oh I forgot that you have to format the internal hardrive with hd advanced 3.0 before you put it in the computer))))))))) okay then download winhip so you can transfer the iso to your ps2 you know what tell me if you read this because I dont want to sit here and type for nothing so pm me or reply here or both okay thanks prutsos aka the mad scientist

Just get a god modchip like a Crystal Chip V2.0 or DMS4 Pro SE
skip the external USB hard drive as they are slower and have bad game compatibility. With those chips and a fat style PS2 you can install an internal hard drive and run it. All you need is one of those chips and the network adapter the PS2 should have come with.

As far as compatibility goes, you are not going to find any program of chip that will have a 100% success rate with games from a hard drive. But they will play them all from a disc. and play games from other regions then your console.

ok well you could take steimy's way but that costs more money and you have to open your ps2 to do it (or pay someone else to install it

but okay ILL explain

1 yes HD advance it costs 25$ and yes it only has 80% compatitbility but you need to guy this in order to install hd loader with 100% compalibility ok

the hardrive like I said its needed to store games in and a 250Gb ist plenty enough they run like 80 at newegg.com

you need the ethernet adapter in order to connect the hardrive to the playstation 2 that costs 30 look on EBay or local gamestore

after all said is done this should cost you around 140$ which is worth it since 3 new games is like 150$

also you can get swap magic but I dont think its worth it because you have to burn games to a disk AKA backups

modchips cost like 40 Ibeleive plus you run the rick of damaging your ps2 plus you pay someone to install it which adds up to 60$
instead of just paying 25$ for hdadvanced so you got it so far????

Without going the modchip way, I reckon swap magic is better way to go then hdadvance.

With swap magic, you can install the memorycard exploit (Which would act pretty much like hdadvance once installed right) and of course if you can get a ps1 game which are pretty much worth bread these days :)

You can use the latest hdloader, which hdavance 3.0 is is not (I think its hdloader 0.7c or something like that.

You can run emulators and pretty much any other homebrew program out there. And also boot them off usbsticks or to copy and update your elf files etc.

Then if needed that what ever game hdloader cant play you can burn it to DVD-R and play it using swap magic.

do what you like, but a mod chip is your best solution for modding. Yes it costs more, but not much.
Modchip $45
Install $35
Shipping $15
then all you need is the hard drive and network adapter and your set.
If your in the USA then check out Teammodders.com

and for the record i have never seen a hard drive program that has 100% compatibility playing all games from the hard drive, and neither has anyone else who doesn't own every game there is and has tested them all from a hard drive.

and Swap Magic is not better, it is just cheaper and trust me you WILL be sorry later. Having a professional install your mod chip you run no more risk of damaging your console then any other mod.
reasons:
1. it can not play any DVD9 back up (aka God of War 2)
2. playing games from other regions you will have some screen cut off which is annoying
3. it doesn't work well at all with cheat discs, unless you buy the coder version and that has bugs of it's own
4. swapping can get to be a pain
5. swap magic alone will not play your back ups, you will need to either use a slidecard or buy a fliptop case

advantages of the modchip:
1. can play DVD9 back ups, Just patch the image with a free program called Toxic DL Patcher
2. no screen cut off with games from other regions
3. no swapping
4. no other mods needed
5. firmware and downloads give built in hard drive support, support to load and run ELF (homebrew) files like SMS media player.
6. a good mod chip will support cheat discs
7. Crystal chip auto patches back up games for online play
and i am sure a few other things i am forgetting.

Yes modchip is definately better then swap magic.
Swap magic is just the cheap way.

Hey I got a q? With your DMS4pro chip, you can put elf files on its own internal memory aye? Is it easy to configure etc? Do you just boot the ps2 up while holding a specific button or something?
