u dont need to...

DVDxCopy removes the protection (it might not, what version u have?)

then copys it but puts a warning and a watermark on it

Ps it removes the region protection from the DVD not the player

Hi,
If this puts a "watermark" on the copy, how can that be removed and can one make a copy of the DVD x copy movie? Like DVD to DVD?

why don't you just use DVD Shrink, it has more features that xcopy, doesn't need anydvd or anything else, and is free. you can't go wrong with it

This is an amazingly imformative site with many places to find information and help. Please support it.

I use DVD Xcopy because it does work. I can't seem to get DVD Shrink to work for DVD-9's when I don't want 2 disks. When I want one disk, dvd x-copy works great.

If, I am doing something wrong with DVD Shrink and anyone can help me to take a DVD-9 and burn it making it a DVD-5, let me know...

I was trying to copy Bruce Almighty which is a DVD-9 and with DVD x-copy, I was able to make a copy using one disk.

FcoGless,

Yes, the trial version of AnyDVD works EXACTLY like the pay for one. As has been pointed out, you have no need to purchase AnyDVD when you are using DVD XCopy. Keep the $$ in your pocket for a change :-)

Welcome to the Club -
Pete

platnm630,

Since you have DVD XCopy and WANT to use it, stay with it -

If you really want to use DVDShrink - and it does work like Xpress, backing up a DVD-9 to a single DVD almost automatically use this guide - To get the most out of Shrink, download Nero - the link for that is here too -

DVDShrink does the same as XCopy except it takes 3 mouse clicks instead of 1, of course it's major plus - - it's totally Free :-)

A 30 day, free, fully functional Nero 6 download can be had here:

I have Nero too, but I am so frustrated nothing is working. I can build computers, but I don't understand programing stuff AT ALL.

platnm630,

OK, Buckle up, keep your hands and legs inside the Computer Room at all times and, Here we go - - we're going to burn us a DVD !

Get the DVD you wish to backup, get something nice and cool to drink - are you comfortable ? Good, well we're off - -

First, you need to download DVDShrink 3.1.4, Beta0.
Shrink download -
http://www.softpedia.com/public/scripts/downloadhero/3-7-52/

We?re Rockin? now :-) - -> Put your DVD in your drive and close de door -

Before I start, I create a folder with my movie?s name somewhere on my HD where I can find it later (i.e. C:/ DVD Work/Pirates of the Caribbean).

(You might want to print this out but you don?t have to, just refer to it so that you don?t miss a step :-D )
Open Shrink, click ?Open Disk?. Then, ?Select DVD Drive? and click ?OK?. After Shrink has opened your disc, anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 ½ minutes you?ll see the size of the disc at the bar at the top of the page. If you have a Green bar with a little Gray at the top of the page, go to the next paragraph:-) If you see some ?Red?, simply check off those files you don?t want, I.E. Outer Mongolian or Eastern Yak Basin language, or extra audio files ? I keep ACS 2ch or ACS 5.1, that will give you stereo, most of the rest you can trash. Only do that if you need to lose some stuff to make it fit. You can also gain more room by clicking ?Custom Ratio? and increasing the compression.
Personally, I compress until I see about 1/8 of an inch of Gray at the end of my Green bar - that way I?m not writing to the very edge of my DVD disc. - Remember, more compression, a tiny bit less on the picture quality ? when I say ?less quality? I?m speaking of theoretically less, nothing you can really see with the naked eye for the most part.

With that being done, let?s make sure that the box which says ?Full Disk? is depressed (No need to cheer it up, it likes being depressed :-). When you are ready to go, - -> click ?Backup?. When the Backup box opens, under ?Target Device? make sure your DVD Burner is listed in the window. Under ?Target folder?, make sure the folder you made at the beginning with the movie?s name is there (that way you can always go back and burn another copy in the future). Now click ?OK?.
Last step: ?STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER !? Clear your throat and yell, ?Burn Baby you Baby, Burn ! ? ?Let me hear you say it, Who?s your Daddy Now ???? Do not fold, spindle, mutilate, molest nor fondle the keyboard. ?GO AWAY !? Ms. Computer will let you know when she is finished, to approach her before then may be a hazardous to your health -

Really, let it alone, go call your Mom, she misses you and would love to hear from you - your backup will be ready shortly, honest :-)

Enjoy your backup, have a good day,
Pete

Hi,
I just wanted to update you to tell you thanks, but it DIDN'T work. I printed your instructions, and followed the to the "T". The movie plays and quits in the middle with an error saying something like the disk is dirty... BS!!! I now have 10 coasters. I am/was using Memorex DVD-R's and I have an external hard drive that I keep the movies on and a BRAND new external DVD RW. Like I said, it burned the movie and then quit playing it. The external hard drive doesn't EVEN recognize it at all and that is where it was burned to. This is totally crazy!!!

platnm630,

I think you need to do a firmware upgrade flash - it's the only thing we haven't tried -

Give that a shot and report back -

locate one for your model DVD R/W on your mfg homepage -
