Hey guys and gals, my friend bought a new laptop and is now locked out of it because he forgot his Vista password. Is there any way for him to recover it/bypass it or will he have to do a system restore? I have zero experience with Vista so I wasn't able to help him. Any help you give me will be much appreciated by both of us.

Also, we tried going into safemode in an attempt to bypass, but that didn't work.

The only difference that I noticed was 800x600 resolution and thats about it... I was brought to the same screen that asks for the password.

I have a feeling he is going to have to reformat his notebook. The crappy part about reformatting other than lost photos and music is that he doesn't have a restore disc which leads me to believe that it has a restore partion... that can't be accessed lol.

You should try using a universal boot CD and see if that can remove vista passwords like it does with XP.

System Restore does NOT eliminate passwords to user accounts.
