How do I activate my second wii controller?

I tried playing Bleach on my wii and I cant seem to work my second controller. It has full batteries and everything and I tried holding down the 1 and 2 button but it still didnt work. Anyone know how?

you need to sync it on your wii first
open the lid where you can put an sd card,there's a sync button there
remove the battery cover from your wiimote,there's also a sync button
press them both at the same time and wait a few seconds
