Just deleted Pinnacle Studio 10 because of all the bugs and resulting crashes. I'd advise avoiding this software like you would TB until someone proves its stable and actually brings some value.

what about the TV/record programs offered with the happosai TV cards I heard they where decent?

I have never exactly used this program. Im a fan of the photoshop programs. But as Cman said the older version had bugs so they may have ironed those out. Ill wait and see what others say about the use of this program.

Hi, I have version 10.5 and it works flawlessly. I had version 10 but it did give me a bit a trouble now and then. But 10.5 fixed a lot of bugs I think. Lets hope that version 11 is more like 10.5 and not 10.0

I bought Pinnacle Studio 10 Plus...which came with a free upgrade to 10.5. I found it very difficult to use and it crashed a lot. I got an update to 10.6. and it was still unstable. Very frustrating to have all your hard work lost because the program kept freezing and crashing. I bought a new computer (custom made) with very high specification. Studio 10 still crashed and caused other problems within Windows XP. I finally uninstalled the whole thing and after re-installing Windows, I started to use Studio 9 (which I got from a friend) and this works perfectly. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that come with 10, but at least it doesn't crash every time you use it. I would be interested to learn if studio 11 has the bugs removed...but I would be very cautious about buying it. Studio 10 was a waste of money (a bit like Windows ME) but is the new version actually better?

If Pinnacle are serious about trying to get their customers to upgrade to Studio 11, then there needs to be a money back guarentee that it works. I spent £75 buying Studio 10 plus directly from Pinnacle and it was very unstable. All messages asking for help were egnored. I don't really feel inclined to spend even more money on something that might work. Studio 9 works...what can Studio 11 do that 9 can't?

I have purchased pinnacle 11.0 and i am very disatified with it.
I have tried to capture HD video with it to no avail.
I have tried to get it right with pinnacle live chat and direct talks on the phone. i am lost

Hmmm...it seems that version 11 has problems too. I think I'll stick with the very basic version 9 plus...at least it works! Why do software companies spend so much time adding extra gimmicks that few of us will ever actually use fully, instead of concentrating on making it user friendly and stable?

It may look like Pinnacle are getting a raw deal here when you read this blog. But if they answered the complaints of their customers...then perhaps there wouldn't be so many unhappy people making these comments.

I was an early adopter of Studio (since v7) with mixed results. Not a so good experience with Studio 10 (but my problems were fixed with 10.7). I have a new PC running with Vista. So I finally upgraded to Studio Ultimate 11.
* Installation was fine, even if it is always too long (I had to install the Bonus DVD to take advantage of the activation keys I previously purchased).
* The application is now much faster to start
* No crash up to now (big change compared to Studio 10.0...).
* The only issue I had was a problem to burn DVD. This was fixed after installing the 11.1 patch
* One friend asked me to do some test with his HD camcorder, as my system is powerful. Capture and Edit were OK. Could be faster, but that's probably a lot of data... Burned an HD-DVD ona standard DVD, but we do not have an HD player. Need more investment !
Honestly, I had a positive experience with Studio 11, based on my previous experience. But I also had a clean system, so that's probably a big help. Let's see with some more editing.
* I had to contact support for my DVD burning problem. hey asked me to install 11.1 and everything was fine.

Pinnacle support is now done via chat. Here is an example of how they will handle your problum. If you would like, I will keep you up to date on the out come.

This is an update to the problem I had installing Pinnacle's Premium Pack Volume 2. Bertrand (Pinnacle's Customer Service) e-mailed me the next morning with a solution for this problem. I will attach that e-mail below.

I have no problems with a product that has flaws. I know, eventually the manufacture will work them out. I do have a problem with poor customer service. there's no excuse for that.

I'm happy to say that I'm feeling much better about Pinnacle. It's nice to deal with a company that follows through with their problems.

Here's something that I can pass along to other Pinnacle Studio 11 owners. Load the Bonus DVD, and if you upgrade, do it on line with an activation key.

The folder C:\Program Files\Common Files might be hidden by the system. So you have to be sure that Explorer is configured in order to show the hidden files and folders.
I just checked on a system and C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\Runtime is always available after an installation done using Install Shield.

In order to quickly solve your problem, I generated an activation key to unlock the Premium Pack Volume 2 on your system. Please enter the following key from the Help menu of Studio 11:
XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

Important:
1) The premium Pack Volume 2 content is installed with the Bonus DVD. Please be sure to install the Bonus DVD before entering the activation key.
2) The activation key was generated based on the system passport registered in your profile (????) If the passport changed, you will just need to regenerate your keys agian from the Help menu of Studio.

Let me know if you have any further problem

Does anyone have issues with Pinnacle version 9? After learning all the tricks to avoid lockups, I have been using this product with very good results. Between this and Premiere I do everything, but I use Pinnacle probably 90% of the time. At first I encountered a lot of issues, spent the usual inordinate anount of time with tech support, etc, but I seemed to have learned enough to combat most errors or avoid them. I didn't even use a patch for fear of getting bugs.

Is the issue with Version 10 and 11? Should I just keep using 9?

Studio 10 had some difficulties at the beginning. These problems were progressively solved and teh last version 10.7 is not stable. A new version (10.8 is actually beta and should go to final probably this week.
Studio 11 is bringing lot of new functionnalities and, from a support point of view, is really stable. Some problems were reported after the first version and were addresed in 11.1. So we have a very interesting software
Do you need to upgrade from Studio 9 to Studio 11 ? That's always a very good question. I have two answers for tjis:
1) Your system runs fine and you don't need more functonnalities than what you already have.
A wise answer is don't change anything on your PC and enjoy

2) You are planning to move to a new PC, to move to Vista, to look at new video formats, to get some new functionnalities, as new effects or plugins, or simply get more fun
Upgrade to Studio Plus 11 (or Studio Ultimate 11

Please don't mislead your potential new customers. Studio Ultimate 11 is plagued with a lot of problems. It would be better if you let them know that there are problems with the program, and that you know it, and that your engineering team is working hard to resolve them.

I've have had to work with three of these problems. The first problem was not being able to make a DVD. This is a big problem with the program. When I asked your Tech (via live chat) if there were any compatibility problems with my new HP DVD writer he replied "no". After Ten hours of working with your Tech team I gave up and bought a new external DVD drive by LG. With this new LG driver I was able to burn a DVD on the first try. There was a lot of time and frustration wasted on trying to solve this problem. If your tech team was honest and up front with me, I would be 10 hours farther along with my project.

My second problem with Studio Ultimate 11 was adding Pinnacle's Premium Pack Volume 2 to the program. This problem was solved by you, (Bertrand Customer Service Pinnacle Systems) and can be viewed by reading the above entries. Again as with the first problem your Tech Support (Luiz) was of no help, and even a little rude. My lesson with this problem is, don't by a hard copy of your product. If your going to add to Studio Ultimate 11 just pay for a Key.

The third problem that I'm working around is the Title Editing. When I have the time in my life to deal with this I will call your Tech Support.

I've been using your forum to try and solve my problems and have found it very useful. Some of the problems that others have incurred are: That's strange, the forum that was so helpful in letting you know what is wrong with Studio 11 is now closed. Why did you do this?

I have pinnacle studio ultimate 11 and I have problems with it burning and shutting down in the middle of a burn. When I go to save the file gets bigger and bigger to save. I now have 30gig left on my C drive from the 140 I had before I started. The video is only 2.1G but it continues to save in C which I don't even want it in. I need someones help to fix the problems?

Man, you all are making me feel better. I have lost weeks with 'Studio Software'. Upgraded 9 to 10, then got a 'Vista PC' (that's a nightmare), upgraded to Studio 11. Have had:

* Exact problem above 'burning DVDs' (and my C drive is 'shrinking'
* 'Capture' has been a challenge - intermittently stuff just 'freezes' while capturing. I messed with those settings for hours, upgraded memory, no luck
* I was able to burn a DVD using 'Menus' - the final DVD worked, but the 'Menu Screen' was a 'blank green screen'
* Sent some emails detailing problems to Pinnacle - no one responded

Could go on forever - anyone that figures any of these out, I'm all ears
