John_D,

There may be some problems that can occur with Studio 11, but when we identify these problems we try our best to resolve them in a timely manner. Generally these are rectified with patches and for more common issues we create FAQs that discuss the issue.

Regarding the DVD creation problem you had, I am sorry that your HP DVD burner was nor working well with Studio. This may be a true incompatibility, but there are other possibilities as well. The tech was not likely to have been intentionally dishonest with you. I don?t know of any specific burner models that I know for a fact will not work. I am glad to hear that your current burner is working well!

Regarding your Premium Pack Volume 2 issue, I am happy that we were able to resolve this for you! Please note that although you did unfortunately run into this problem, it is not an issue that most customers will run into.

I know you mentioned an issue with titling as well. I hope that our support team can be helpful with whatever specific problem you are having.

Lastly you mentioned the closing of our Beta forum. The reason for this was that since we no longer have a beta patch, this forum was no longer applicable. We do have other forums you can use however:

http://forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/70/ShowForum.aspx

Others mentioning burning problems,

Make sure you check out our Burn Problems FAQ.

This should be helpful to resolve many burn problems. Regarding space being taken up, I am not sure what exactly is taking up all the space. You may want to go to File -> Delete Auxiliary Files. This would likely free up some space.

bdizzle,
Studio 11 is accepting a large range of video formats. Please see:
http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us...Specifications/
http://pinnacle.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/pin...p?p_faqid=15738

With AVI files, you have to be sure that you also have the CODEC, used to encode the file, available on your system.

Then you will be able to open your video files in Studio 11, drag the file to the timeline and edit it (trim, cut, add effects etc.)

I bought Pinnacle Studio Plus, version 10.6, in May, 2007. The first thing I did was to add the 10.7 patch before editing. After reading all the bad online comments regarding Pinnacle, I expected this software to breakdown on the first try. I have never had a problem with the software or their tech support. I have edited and burned DVDs on six projects with few, if any, problems.

My only complaint with Pinnacle is the how they nickel and dime you for extra features. Additionally, the available titles really do suck. I would gladly purchase a premium title package if their titles were as good as some of their special effects. In my opinion, Microsoft "Movie Maker" has better titles than Pinnacle. Of course, "Movie Maker" is useless with my new Panasonic camera and it has many issues itself.

I was looking to upgrade to Studio 11 Ultimate, but the titles aren't any better. In the meantime, I would rather spend my money on a new video card instead. Now that I'm invested in Pinnacle, does anyone know how I can get better titles with 3rd. party software that works with Pinnacle?

Jump-Wa,
I will forward your comments regarding the titles of Studio to our product team.
Please keep in your mind that our Titler let's you also create your own titles (or menus), so the offer is not only limited to the titles provided with the software.

If you are looking with more advanced titles, I would recommend having a look at VitaScene or Heroglyph from proDAD. These two plugins are compatible with Studio 10 (or 11). Vitascene is even included with Studio 11 Ultimate.
For a preview of these tools, please go to our web site http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us...Ultimate+11.htm
You can also visit the site of ProDAD http://www.prodad.com.

bvregille,

Thanks for the info on proDad Plug-ins. Just checked this out and it looks promising. I was very impressed, initially, with the Heroglyph software. I will try the trial version and will perhaps purchase this.

I will let you guys know how this works out here in the forum.

Thanx for this info - so I do not have to get edition 10 first?
Also - I was told that Studio 9 is using the CPU memory during editing instead of the Video Card - Because Studio gets slower as I progress on an hour of editing material - or suddenly close if - it seems when I use too much memory too fast. If so is this situation fix in the newest editions.

IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT. OK, so I'm surfing around on the Pinnacle web site and I run across the 10.8 patch. I currently have Studio Plus 10.7. So I downloaded the patch and then opened Studio. The only and a big problem I had was getting horizontal lines across my video clips and it was rendering that way as well. After waisting an hour on live Pinnacle chat and going in circles with tech support, I simply uninstalled Studio and reinstalled it, adding only the 10.7 patch to my 10.6 product. Now the software works just fine and I'm not touching it.

In fact, the software works even faster now that I've upgraded my graphics card to an agp 8x, PNY, GeForce 7600 GS card. So, when I'm ready to upgrade to Studio Ultimate 11, I should have little problem with proDAD© VitaScene, I hope. More on this at 11.

I Highly recommend that anyone having "burning" issues check out the link mentioned above! There is a link there to update DiscAPI Update , which I used, and PRESTO! I was able to make projects, and save them to files, or other media besides DVD, but I could only manage to burn a couple of DVD's (after MANY tries), since June. After downloading this .zip file, and following the readme instructions, I have burned three projects from video ts files that were otherwise worthless 15 minutes ago. I'm ecstatic! If you can't burn, please try the following!

1) Install the latest patch (as of 10/17/07)http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consumer+Products/Home+Video/Studio+Family/Studio+11+Series+Support/Download+Area/Drivers+-+Updates?mode=documents

2) If still not working, follow the link above! http://pinnacle.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/pin...=&p_faqid=13874

3) In that link, download this .zip - http://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/...I3_Build178.zip

4)follow the readme instructions for installing the .zip file

5) Hopefully, enjoy burning some videos!

I have been looking for months to find a solution to my "burning" question, so I hope this helps anyone else out there with the same problem.

It is even easier now that the Studio 11.1.1 update was released, as the DiscAPI fix is included.
You can download this update from http://www.pinnaclesys.com/studio11patch

That's good to know, and would definately be better if it works... however, I did load the latest 11.1.1 update, and still had the problem until I found and loaded the DiscAPI patch...

having just bought studio 11 ultimate, i'd like to ask a pinnacle rep two simple questions

1) why is it impossible to do 2 pass encoding ?
2) why is there no option to deinterlace video ?

considering the size in gb of the installation, the price in pounds and the fact that we are now at version 11, why are these two ESSENTIALvideo encoding tools not available with pinnacle despite being available with so many free give away software tools like gordian knot, virtual dub and xvid itself ?

it's a major disappointment and the reason i'm returning it for a refund. do these pinnacle guys know just how bad a 1 pass encode looks ?

Domie,
Studio is a consumer product and is providing tools which could be easy to use for the maximum users. The encoding quality of our MPEG2 encoder is very good as recognized by press reviews.
- Having a two-pass encoding would perhaps help sometimes, especially for bitmaps and this functionnality might be available in a future version.
- Interlaced video. This is generally not necessary when encoding to MPEG2 or DivX. For high speed display, you are able to select progressive scan in the encoder options.

Studio 11 is effectively not the first version of teh software and several functionnalities weer progressively implemented in teh software to follow the market and the new technlogies (as now Studio 11 is supporting AVCHD and HD-DVD).
We are sorry if the software was not sufficient for your needs (might be the same with the majority of video editing software in teh same market range than Studio 11). The software yoru mentionned are probably able to do soem functions you are requesting, but they are not doing also all of what Studio is doing.
Let us know if you need more details or if you would like to be contacted.
Regards

thanks for replying so quickly, studio 11 does indeed have an amazing amount of encoding tools and this version even installs without crashing which is a great improvement but i'm still scratching my head as to why two pass encoding isn't already included for codecs which absolutely need two passes such as divx.

divx looks awful with 1 pass encoding as you eliminate the codecs ability to scan for bit rate propogation leading to huge file sizes and messy blocky artefacts everywhere especially in detailed and fast action scenes.i tried it with studio 11 and it looked awful, i ran the same video through virtual dub freeware on 2 passes and it looks perfect, i can actually see the froth on the waves that i am surfing on which i can't with the pinnacle studio result.
i understand not all users would want divx but if it is offered in the advertising, it's a major shock to discover that in the year 2007 a retail product is on the market that doesn't include something as simple as two pass encoding options in its architecture.

i hope you are right and the programmers wake up and realise what a huge mistake ommitting this function actually is, it would take them about 2 minutes to add it into the design.

I purchased studio 10 & 11 ultimate. Why is the music on 10 not available to me through the 11 ultimate and what can I do to get it on the pc that has v.11? The version 10 and 11 are installed on seperate PC's. I also found a free activation key on pinnacles website for H.264, what does that do?

Keatons,
I presume you are speaking about SmartSounds. These music are no more included with Studio 11, but ar ereplaced with a new set of musics called ScoreFitter (better quality). But you can still use your SmartSounds with Studio 11.
Please refer to the following FAQ from our knowledge base:
http://pinnacle.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/pin...p?p_faqid=15605
It will explain you how to install the SmartSounds from your Studio 10 installation disk.

The free H.264 activation ket is only necessary if you want to edit AVCHD content. You will be automatically offered to install this free key if yu try to edit AVCHD.
For support questions regarding Studio 11, I would recommend you visiting the Pinnacle forum: http://forums.pinnaclesys.com

I have recently purchased Studio 11 and have encountered problems with the quality of my videos. I previously ran studio 9 which had no problems and the output avi file was good quality. I find that the quality is poor when watching full screen in editing mode in 11 but the rendered file is worse. Have tried several formats. divX, mjpeg. The worst quality was the full screen DV (is this HD becuase the file size was 2gb for a 6 min video!!?)

I kept 9 on my PC just in case I didn't get on well with 11. so my first question would be does this cause a conflict?

Secondly does 11 require a higher spec graphics card to enable decent quality. I have a nVidia GeForce 6200 LE (am told it is 256 but believe it is only 128)

PC is struggling to run pinnacle, but not crashing it, so upgrading my RAM to 2GB.

HELP!! Don't want to have to give up and go back to 9 because my stupid brother has an NTSC camcorder and I have PAL so 11 was my saviour to edit together the tapes :-S

lyndsc79,

It is generally recommended to uninstall previous versions of Studio before installing Studio 11, but this is not required and I don?t recall this causing video quality problems. Full-screen preview in Edit mode of Studio is not meant to give you a true preview of video quality on output, it should look better on output. The Full Screen (DV) AVI setting should look pretty good. I?m not sure how you are trying to play the created files, but give it a try in Windows Media Player.

Your video card should work okay, but it would be a good idea to check with Nvidia and make sure that you have the latest driver installed for your card.

lyndsc, i think that videocard of yours is onboard version so it shares main ram of computer. do a dxdiag at the run command line to see what ram is available to the card.

Thanks for the responses. The video card has 128mb approx memory. Oh and i have found the switch to say preview in full resolution..this is now perfect!
I tried some more rendering last night and found that I had not yet tried MPEG-II...success!! Great quality.

This still doesnt explain why it wont output to Full Screen DV - oh and in answer to that question, yes i was playing it back in windows media player.
I'm not going to worry too much about it. If i've found an output that works i'll just stick with that. I may look into upgrading the graphics card to see if that sorts out the full dv version.

oh another weird thing i encountered...trying to put speed effect on a clip..it didn't slow it down and changed it to a completely different clip!! The picture at the beginning of the clip was the right one but on playing it, it was something different!

I have been using pinnacle 9.3 for about 4 years now. I just upgraded to Pinnacle 11.0 ultimate and lost an entire project after 48 hours of work on it. I had attempted to use Prodad to add to a scene when the computer froze up. When it stayed frozen for about five minutes I did the old ctrl-alt-del to restart it. When it came back on and I tried to load the project, the program told me the project was lost and the file was empty. Pinnacle support has done nothing to tell me where or how a whole file has gone. I suspect cyberspace. This project had benn saved throughout my work. I never had this happen withPinnacle 9.3. I regret ever changing. I also needed to increase my harddive to a 320 gig and upgrade my video card just to run Pinnacle 11.0. Now I needed to reinstall my operating system when I put in the hard drive. Several trips back and forth to the store and about 20 hours later I had my computer up and running again. This led to me also needing to upgrade my power supply as well. My $70.00 upgrade from Pinnacle ended up costiong me well over $250.00 at Tiger Direct.com to get my computer to work with this program. It would be nice for Pinnacle to answer some of them. I am now about 2 week behind on my projects and need to completely redo the one I lost.

Can anyone out there recommend Upgrading from Pinnacle 9 to Pinnacle 11? Knock on wood, every project I have done with 9 has had no issues once I ironed them out initially. The only thing I have trouble doing is importing .VOB files. Not all .VOB mind you just some - and Adobe Premier Elements takes in the exact same files with no problem. 11 Had some touches I would like to use in my shows - pan/scan, etc... right now I create all slideshows with Photodex Producer then export AVI into Pinnacle to add video - a lot of work to make up for Pinnacle not being able to handle lots of photos.
All I seem to read are horror stories on Pinnacle, and I noticed they dropped the price on 11 - which always seems to come around the time a new version is released. Any insight, anyone using 11 with few issues?
Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Hi there.

I'm crazy. I have with this problem several weeks ago and the tech people from Pinnacle has been unable to help me. The thing is that I have created a DVD in Pinnacle Studio 11, it plays great in my laptop (using Windows Media Player) but when I take that same DVD into different home DVD players, the main menu seems and sounds good but when I access any chapter it seems and sounds like fast, something speed up. I have tried creating the content first then burn the dvd with another software and the problem persists. I have tried different settings in the creation process also. Closing the internet, etc.

Please help!!!!!!

I have this problem only with Pinnacle because I have created a photo album in DVD using ProShow Gold I have no problems with it.
