if i want to play online do i have to have a ethernet cable or can i do it wireless like a psp.....so i dont have to have a ethernet cable

You can do it wirelessly, so long as you have a router of course.
Just go to network settings on your PS3.

Just go through the options, select wired or wireless connection.
Its the very last of the list of settings.
