Hey, when I back up my movies, I have blank dvd's that are capable of x16 write speed, but I'm not sure what speed my DVD burner is capable. I've been using IMG burn so far with x4 speed. My DVD drive is a TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H653L, and I don't know how to find the max write speed supported. Can anyone help me out on which speed I should use? Any help would be appreciated.

Your drive burns up to 18x on - and + R media. Here's some specs on it - link.

I wouldn't recommend burning at 18x on it though - no 18x media out and you would be overburning 16x to 18x - may not do well at all.
If you're using good media like Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, made in japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell go to 8x.

Binkie7 summed that up nicely
if you are prepared to wait I'd stick with 4x but if not maybe bump it up to 8x but I have learned nothing above 12x or 16x if you want maximum quality.
repeating Binkie7 Happy Burning!!
