how do burn a movie that i got off the internet onto a dvd so i can watch it on a dvd player?

You first need to convert the file to DVD Format and then you can burn it to DVD straight.

Here is a freeware program that will convert the AVI file to DVD.

VSO DivXtoDVD (It does not only do DivX it does many more)

Then after you convert it you can use a DVD burning program like Nero or CloneDVD 2 to burn it to disc.
