Hi there, I just got a slimline ps2, model 70001.

I purchased the newest swap magic cd's, as well as the magic switch keys.

Now, I thought the reason for the magic switch keys was so that the system would not restart when the flip top is opened. However I tossed in the swap magic dvd just to check it out, before installing the magic switch keys, and when I opened the flip top, swap magic just kept running, displaying a message 'insert disk with larger TOC' or something like that. If I put in the swap magic dvd or cd at that point, close the console, it keeps running no problem.

So.. I don't get it, what are the switch keys for? Is it normal for the program to keep running even though I don't have them installed? Will it only work properly once I install them?

*confused*

The magic keys are used to fooling the PS2's sensors (or its security system in other words) into thinking its lid is still closed when in fact the lid is open so you can swap your Swap Magic disc for your backed-up/import game without the system knowing you are doing so. Imagine the footage of a top security area where it is completely empty and safe being played as a 1 minute clip in a infinite loop where the security guard would not notice unless he paid extra attention while you can sneaking around hauling away gold or whatever it is that is inside.

When you mentioned your PS2 asking for a TOC swap, the system detected the lid was open and the Swap Magic menu asked you if you wanted to swap in an original or whatever to do such and such. As for information on TOCs in general, I bet someone can give a better example then me.

Thx for the reply! I figured it was that, my confusion stemmed from the fact that I assumed the system kicked you back to the PS2 OS when you opened the lid, which I guess was a false assumption.
