I have been searching and cannot find a definitive answer on this, i always use a and never have a problem, but does anyone else recommend any of the other firmware versions? which is the most successful for everyone?

a-always read at 12x
b-always read at 4x
c-read ad 12x until original is inserted then read at 4x
d-read at 4x if original is inserted then read at 12x

you might want to go with c so you can change the drive to read slower if you are using cheaper media

I use (a), and have used cheap media and it read it perfectly fine. If you ask me I'd stick with (a).

i stick with c because its default fast and when i will ever need to use bad media i will put in original and set the speed.
