I just got a DVR-105 and would like to put some home movies onto dvd...if they will be good quality. Since I never had a dvd burner, i've never woried about learning how. Is there a guide I might be able to go to? Any help would be great. THANKS!!

I have used videowave and pinnacle studio8 and the results on the dvd are good. Sometimes on the computer the playback will look poor, but the playback on the TV is good. I have not tried capturing and then reauthoring with something like tmgenc(?) as the other programs are slow for the rendering(compressing)/ reauthoring process.

The digital camcorder forum in afterdawn is a good one also for additional help.

Best program I have used is Roxio 6 DVD builder. But I am a big fan of Roxio products and some what of a minority here. In DVD builder you can take any video file extension, the new version 6.1 has support for .mov files as well. Create a menu and burn a DVD. It is really simple to use and User Friendly. Are your home movies on VHS or in a easy to use DV format? IF already in a computer friendly format like .AVI, .mpeg, .divx, ete then I recomend Roxio. IF not then you will have to read some of the other forums in this website.

I'm not sure what format they would be in. I'm using a Sony digital camcorder that records onto tapes. Like I said, I've never bothered with downloading them before.

downloading from a sony minidv (I assume it is minidv and not microdv) will produce an AVI. These AVI files are huge!! One hr of camcorder footage will produce a 13 gb file. Any of the above programs will work. Your Sony may have come with some software which will capture if not edit the footage.

The above software (roxio videowave, ulead movie factory, pinnacle studio) are cheaper packages (usually less than $100)that will do this. Other packages exist but they get progressively more expensive for more whistles and bells.

If you have any other problems, check out the digital camcorder forum in afterdawn.
