ok i hooked up my samsung 19" widescreen lcd monitor with a HDMI to dvi cable. and a message pops up saying "not optimum mode... reccomended mode 1440x900 60hz"

how do i adjust it? can i do ith through the ps3 or will i have to hook my monitor to my comp with a dvi cable to my video card and set it with my comp?

also how can i check and see what ps3 display is playing in 720p, 1080p ect? i set up the video setting in the settins and check all the boxes, but how do i know which setting its displaying in?

you must make sure that your monitor has hdcp built in or it wont work. as for the 1440x900 60hz i dont know i get the same problem but with 1690x1050 60hz. to find out what its playing in i.e 720p 1080p go to display settings on ps3 video output settings press x then hdmi>>> custom>>>> then select the 576p 720p 1080p 1080i then you will get a screen that sais out of range etc. go to custom and turn off or unmark 1080i press x and if it comes up again turn off 1080i and 1080p that leaves 576p and 720p and if it fails again just leave 576p on thats what your monitor is capable of. im currently using a dell 2007wfp 20.1'' widescreen at 720p and i keep getting the message out of rage, change display input to 1680x1050 60hz, but if you go to custom and selct the one you want as i done the 720p it should work.
but i also would like to know how to change the display input.

this is my monitor im using http://www.samsung.com/Products/Monitor/...19MEWSFYXAA.asp i checked all the boxes all the way up to 1080p. so is this the maximum resolution my monitor will show when playing a game? is is hdcp capable and im using a dvi to HDMI cable. so if i got a 720p game it will downscale to 720p and if im plaing a blu ray or 1080p game it will play in 1080p?

with mine it wont downscale automatically if i have a 720p game then i will have to selct the 720p myself through the ps3 settings i said earlier. may be different with your monitor. i havnt tried a Blu-ray yet so not sure about the res.
