Audio problems with VLC in YDL

Has anyone run into audio problems with playing .VOB files in VLC? I have it installed in YDL 5.0 on my PS3. When I start playing a .VOB file the audio defaults to Stereo, but it is very low. If I change the audio to 5.1 the volume is much louder, but there is so much static that you cannot make out everything. Can someone help me to configure VLC correctly with YDL.
