One of the DVD players that I have is an RCA RC5215P, which is about 2 years old. It plays most retail DVD's fine, but when using DVD XCopy Express to back up a DVD and then play in the RCA RC5215P, It will play the "Backup Trailer" and Copyright notice, but then go blank and "shut down" the RCA DVD player, turning it off, entirely.

Has anyone else experianced such a problem with this or another player? This occurs with all back-ups by "DVD X Copy Express".

Thanks for any help.

I had this problem with xcoopy gold and express with a standalone in my car (i think it is a panasonic) and have since converted to dvdshrink and recordmax. I was told that it was a media issue but I think that it is the program. If you want to keep the rca, you might have to use a different methodology to backup dvds.

I like dvdshrink and recordmax so much better and it is cheaper than xcopy xpress.
If you want to go that route, check out oriphus' guides:

Thank you yuedana, for the info.

I recently purchased DVD XCopy Platinum. I'm backing up one as we speak. Hopefully, the issue will be resolved in this, if it is indeed a problem with the software, however, I have my doubts. Reason being, that I also have an RCA DCR212N, that does the whole array of DVD, CD, SVCD, VCD, MP3, etc., and it plays the backups just fine. This makes me suspect that it may be the archaicy of the player, and the bios information within, being older, and not able to read the other formats as well as more up to date codecs and techniques.

We'll see, after the new "Platinum" burn, as I'll post the results.

Thanks again.

As expected, the DVD XCopy Platinum made no difference in correcting the problem over XCopy Express. Does not seem to be software related.

Has anyone else had this problem with an older DVD player that is not set up for other formats other than just DVD?

Thanks

EUREKA!!!!

I took your advice, yuedana, and downloaded DVDshrink (ver. 3 Beta) from www.dvdshrink.org.

After 3 pagefaults caused by cdr4_xp.sys, I downloaded the NEW driver by Phillips, found at www.windowsxp-drivers.com/drivers/86/86286.htm , and replaced the old cdr4_xp.sys found in the C:\Windows\system32\drivers file folder with the new one from Phillips. Problem solved.

I then decrypted, compressed, and created the Video TS files on my hard drive with dvdshrink.

Next, I used GEAR DVD Burning software Standard edition to create the image file and burn the DVD. IT WAS PERFECT and plays just fine in the RCA RC5215P older player and the quality is superb.

I was wrong. It is NOT a problem of an archaic player, or medium. It is directly related to the DVD XCopy Software.

Thank you yuedana, for pointing me in the right direction.

Best regards,
George
