Help with Slim v14 and Flip Top

I bought this for my Slim v14 PS2. The page says this flip top will work on all slim PS2s.

I installed the flip top, however discs will not read. When I boot the PS2 with either Swap Magic or a real game, it takes me to the configuration screen, as though a disc isn't even in the machine.

I reinstalled the old cover and everything works fine again, so I know I didn't mess the PS2 up.

Is there any way to make this flip top work? I'd rather not waste even more money on shipping to send it back if there's a way I can get it working.
