Have a few questions, I have another 360 that is flashed with the Xtreme 5.2 fw, it has a ms28 drive. After my first 360 got banned, I plugged my HD into this 360, and was going to go on live on it, but then I thought, i'd rather leave one for backups, and play on live with this one. But from all the speculations, I have found that people think after the spring update, some checks in the new firmware started logging data, my 2nd 360 has the spring update, which was installed when I plugged my HD into it, but it has not been on live, if I flash it back to the original firmware, and go on live, will it be banned? Or is it too late, would the spring update have already logged everything, ready to be sent off to MS as soon as I log on?
And also, is it safe to use my HD in a non-banned 360(Move HD from banned to non-banned 360)?
You went on live and got the spring update, then never went near it until recently and discovered you were banned. Once you received the spring update did you make any firmware changes? In other words you had x.xx firmware when you got the spring update, did you still have the same firmware version when you logged on recently?

Yes, I had the same firmware, nothing had changed, I went on xbox live the day the spring update was made available to download it, and after downloading it, I was online for a few minutes checking messages, etc, then I disconnected the ethernet lead. Then I went on again few weeks ago now, and found my xbox 360 was banned.

I went on live on my ms-28 drive xbox 360, after updating it to ixtreme 1.2, works fine, would be great if microsoft are unable to detect this firmware for a while now, but they most likely will eventually catch up.

I was hoping you wouldn't say that. I assumed you'd respond to say you went on live, got the spring update, changed your firmware at some point, logged on recently to discover you were banned. I was thinking it was a change in firmware which would flag you up.

How the bans hit is still a mystery (as far as I know). I'm on firmware 4.2, still not banned and don't see a point in changing anything. However based on what you've said it really would seem that my days are numbered :-(

Thanks for the info, very interesting. Unfortunately it means I am no closer to understanding how the bans are activiated.

Theres a number of theories out there regarding how Microsoft detected modded consoles that are now banned, but there is no definite answer as of yet, if there was, it would make life easier for c4e and other hackers as they would know what they need to sort out in the firmware in order to stop the bans.
It could have been that microsoft included a small background app that was sent to the 360 with the spring update, probably did get to everyone, only some people, that compared the original firmware with the one of the drive at present, and checks to see if the program code matches all the original entries, CODE for CODE, leaving out the drive key area of the firmware as this is unique for each 360, the difference could tell them if the drive has been flashed with some hacked firmware.

Until now that is....
According to C4eva and other members of the scene there are several checks that take place, this checks are SERVER based and not based in the 360 firmware.

When ever you insert a disk offline only the PFI is checked, its still unknown whether this is logged anywhere as the 360 does NOT send this data next time you connect to live. (meaning flashed firmware and copied games are fine offline)
NB-Offline means no ethernet cable attached, not not signed into live

When you login to Xbox Live the live servers check all stealth files (check xbins for more info)
The jitter-check is ran four or five times during the initialisation.
PFI/DMI/SS are all checked several times as well.

If any of these fail, several additional checks are performed, retail code, region lock etc.

The way in which ixtreme works is almost full proof - as it doesn't allow games with bad video/pfi/dmi or ss to boot (in theory) it has been proven that some games with bad sectors will boot though (roll on ixtreme1.3)

The best way to be secure is to check all stealth files using the latest mulleter and latest schtom as both of these pieces of software check the hashes and will make them match retail hashes if there is a problem, the best way to be secure on xbox live isto throughly check your backups for stealth and make sure your copy is as close to retail as possible.

I have digressed anyway, the bans are based on bad backups (pure and simple) If hashes don't match retail you have a bad backup and are running the risk of being banned at the next session of bannings (there are NO bannings currently taking place)

M$ still cannot detect firmware and your fine running any firmware as long as your disks are 100% correctly stealthed

I'll help anybody who needs PSP help but only if you've helped yourself first - Everything the scene knows is self taught. What makes you spoonfed n000bs special?

PROJECT EE IS A FARCE!! THE REAL SCENE HAS SPOKEN - n00bs with an idea but no coding skill does not make a firmware.

cool, so as long as the backups you are running are fully stealthed you should not have have any issues, so c4e did find out how the bannings were initiated? Strange thing is, when I went for the spring update, i didnt play online, nor was there any game in the drive, I powered off the 360, turned it on few months later and found it was banned, what disk did it check then?
That conclusion cant be solid.

No, the conclusion is solid, the arguement that M$ only started logging with the spring update is flawed, M$ have probably known since day one who was running backups and who wasn't.
The firmware "hacks" were very basic to begin with and didn't bother with stealthing the media.

M$ may of implemented something in the dashboard updates to check but this happened in the fall update at the latest as opposed to the spring update.

The only reason there is so much duff info going around is that people haven't researched anything themeselves and come out with blanket statements like your one above (no offence, purely an example)

Fully stealthed games will keep you safe as you can be (for now)

Eventually we may be at the point where are backups are as good as originals but its a long way off as of yet and whilst M$ can't read the firmware on the drive (currently)
Whose to say that may not change in time?

Moral of the story is just as stated in the Xtreme firmware readme files "USE LIVE AT YOUR OWN RISK"

I couldn't say if it's because you're in the U.K. or not. But it was a free theme I downloaded from Marketplace quite awhile back.
