try using these free products to speed it up a bit.
-spyware terminator
-AVG
-Advanced Spyware remover
-Webroot Windows washer (trial version=free) I love all products by webroot.

you would be surprised at what those find. There are many many others out there just as good or perhaps better, alot of them you have to pay for, but some you don't. I don't even know if this is what you are referring too or not, but the slow pc might be the cause of the afore mentioned. Also you might want to just go into
-start
-run (type in "msconfig" w/out quotes
-go to the "start up" tab at the top and deselect all options and reboot
what is your operating system, as that command might not work on your pc (the msconfig one)

trippy92-
What site are you trying to download it from? If it is Microsoft, then you will have to go through a check to make sure your copy of XP is genuine. If it is not then you will not be able to download the SP2.

Maybe try it from this site: XP SP2 Link

What kernal file is giving you the error? Remember that we can not see your computer and need information before we may respond.
