I downloaded and ran the free trial of XPRESS. I burned the 3 DVD's with no problem. I decided to buy and purchased the Platinum (althouth that may have been a mistake for me). I don't know what I'm getting for the extra that I paid.
Except.... When I installed Platinum and tried to run the Simple option (I assume this is XPRESS). The software rips the DVD and when I insert a blank disk as the program directs, nothing happens. I installed, uninstalled, read every forum message that I can find and get nowhere. I then tried the Advanced (Platinum??) option and I can rip and burn with no problem.
I have read note after note by folks who have the same type of problem, but I will be more than happy to try aomething that someone might suggest. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I had used up my free burns in the demo version. Evidently a file is then stored somewhere which locks out use of the program. I thought it might be a registry item so I edited registry, removing anything that I could think of which referred to DVD X in any form that I could imagine. All to no avail.
The program is too "integrated" for me to see what it is (or isn't) doing. I've read about the fact that it might use SmartRipper along with GEAR burning software. If the program would work after installation it would be great for some DA who thought that a hard drive had something to do with Viagra, some folks want programs that just work and who cares why.
The program needs a decent PDF file which shows how to use it, and evidently it has changed so much so fast that there is no easy way to do this.
I'm going to continue to try to use the program and would like to ask if anyone knows anything about my "Demo Lockout" theory for why XPRESS doesn't work, and why are there so many menu items that are grayed out that I can't get access to at all?
---I received my copy of the program on disk in the mail today. I expected documentation with this but got EXACTLY what I downloaded. If you are buying the program and can download save yourself the $8.95 shipping charge.
And then I try to post this on 321 Studios Forum and get a notice that I am quarantined for 24 hours. This sounds like customers are considered a kind of plague. There wasn't a notice given about this before I composed the note. That may well be the straw that broke this camel's back.
