I was unhappy with the above response so I decided to call Xbox support;

They said that because they do not know the nature of the ban that they can't tell me if i'm at risk. What he meant was that you could have been banned for having pirated music on your hard drive or something similar!!

I didn't even think that was possible! Anyway they recomend that you don't re-use your hard drive. I think to be safe it is wise to format your hard drive as mentioned previously. Its just not worth the risk.

I know right. I guess they are so mad, because they got banned and couldn't deal with the thought of maybe having to buy three 360s in all.

I bought another 360 like it was no thing. I'll even buy another if I have too.
Whoa, you're either very committed to the 360 or swimming in a sea of the green stuff.

I don't even think I could contemplate buying another 360 if I ran into problems with mine, as much as I do enjoy what the console has to offer. I couldn't even contemplate contemplating the purchase of a third. I'd rather hold out for the PHANTOM CONSOLE!

Well unfortunately no you can not use it it will still register it as
modded, sorry.
Funny how the guy from M$ said sorry.

I wasn't happy with the email reply so I called them.

They said they don't recomend it. Thats enough for me, i'm formatting that thing. I'll keep the game saves though.

No I'm not swimming in green stuff, but I do ok. Another 360 is a small price IMO to pay to be able to play copies on Live. I could do another too, but after that it would be too rich for my blood.

Ah, okay. With this current generation of consoles, online appears to be a much bigger factor than it was in the past; so, I reckon I'll probably start to really regret losing Live in the coming months.

Luckily there's a whole gallimaufry of good single-players set to come out.

I'm a big time single player gamer myself. You often see some who play only single player or only multi-player. I like them both, but I'd take single player if I could only have one. Ironically except for a handful of PC games I never got into multi-player. I started getting into multi-player a little with PSP and then Xbox Live on 360 got me hooked. Those bastards!

the best thing to do is format your hard drive then put it onto the new console (without going on live) and then format it again then you can be sure that you wont be banned from swapping hard drives .thats what i intend to do

Well using the old hd in a new 360 DOES have issues. I can log on live and play my 1 real game. But it seems that all my save games are screwed. Anything that has dl content in the save game tells me its damaged or not correct. The only game that will load the previous saves is oblivion but it takes all the dl content out of the game IE Wizzards tower. Not sure if its the hd itself or something that happend when my orig xbox got banned. Maybe ms has some way of locking content on the drive or something. Not sure.

PSP Life ---> 2.71 ---> 3.03 ---> 3.03 HEN ---> 1.50 ---> 3.10 OE-A' ---> What a Fun Little Machine

Yeah, I'm the same, really: Live is a lot of fun; as is single-player, but put in the position where I'd have to choose between the two, I think I'd have to go with Single.

I haven't had that problem at all. Every one of my saves, XBLA games, and DLC has worked fine.

I think that you have to be connected to XBL for the XBLA games and DLC content to work, otherwise, it will only work on the original console.

Honestly, I don't believe any of this HDD nonsense. I'll just take the risk. I think c4eva even mentioned how he thinks it's safe to play your old HDD from a banned console on a new console.

To be honest nobody knows 100% whether you will be safe or not.

I chose to format mine because I thought it would be the safest option, at the end of the day it depends how much you want to risk it.

If you want to format the recommended method is to format it on the original machine. Put it onto your new one and format it again.

There is speculation that the hard drive links itself to the console its formatted on. By formating on the newer (unmodded) xbox it should then make a new link to the unmodded machine.

Once done it might then be safe to carry on using your game saves. Like I said though, none of the above is 100% fact (even microsoft can't give a straight answer) but in my opinion it is the safest option other than buying a newer hard drive.

the thing is guys i have had my 360 go to 3 red lights and its 3rd time i have a new 360 i have just been transfering the old hdd onto new one. problem is i have to set up time set up connection again etc so the hdd cant store everything. microsoft detect a modded consol throught a modded drive that reads differnt speeds and cd code of like 1234 and originals say 12341234 something like this can be pointed out by microsoft. the hhd just store saved game data and system updates but i think they do not store any info about modded stuff in hdd. i have a thread here about wt micro has been detecting and how they know if using modded console. :-

In regards to the corrupted gamesaves, with the spring update, MS implimented a new rule whereas gamesaves will only work with the original console they were created on.

This was due directly to the scumbag cheaters who used 360gamesaves.com to upload/download gamesaves to receive instant achievement points.

So maybe this is somehow affecting gamesaves when someone is transfering the hdd from an old 360 to a new one.
