The seconded day after the ban hammer dropped I was banned, the next day I purchased a core system (don't tell the wife !) I have swapped the hard drive several times no issues, I have a back up copy of guitar hero which I play on my modded console. I have downloaded extra tracks from live onto my hard drive and then switched drives over and played them on my flashed box without any issues. Fingers crossed MS cannot detect the switch. Anyway who is it hurting ! MS claimed they banned xbox's from live to ensure no cheating on live. What would be the benefit of banning a unflashed console. None ! They still get revenue from marketplace downloads. And imagine the amount of 20g hard drives purchased from e-bay when they update to 120g. Where does it say in the terms and conditions that your not allowed to swap hard drives. NOWHERE. So stop all your scare mongering. If it did need formatting it would automatically do it when you switched it back and forth making it have no benefit similar to the hard drive locking on the orginal xbox.. OK, what about the wireless adapter that's now useless on live, how long before people say that will ban your new core system because the serial number ties in to your banned box when it first connected. MS wants you to go out and buy another console, More sales ! If they didn't then your game tag would be banned to always keep that person who has cheated and broke Terms and conditions (like me) away from there precious xbox live.

ok im sick of newbies coming here telling other members that they are wrong. i called ms i own damn self and was told that you couldnt use the drive because you could still be banned and that they werent responsible. now if you want to say that im lying then you call microsoft and ask them yourself and make a fool of yourself.

Since I originally posted this I'll chime it. Yes a hard is linked to the last console it was formated with or the 1st console to use it. That doesn't mean it can't be used with any other console, but if it's still linked to a banned console info COULD be used against the next console to use it. Of course that doesn't equal an automatic ban, but there are plenty of people who should be banned that are not. In the days of 360 banning every little bit of protection help.

BTW no one is saying, buy a new hard drive. It's just a suggestion to do yourself a favor and format the old one on the banned console before you put it on another console. Look at all the people who thought stealth wasn't important either, but it was pretty important. The bottom line though is do what you want to do. I care about keeping my 360 unbanned. If I can help out others who want the same, cool. Also, wayneb73 it looks like you are at least working on a ban here. Lets see if you can pull it off. The reason I AD forums so much are a lot good info is share here with flame fest being kept to a bare minimum.

Just to go back to my main point, if they did ban you for swapping hard drives what happens to all the owners of 360's that purchase bigger hd than the standard 20g, will they bin them or sell them. if you where a core system holder and purchsed one from ebay and where banned you would have a great argument against MS. if MS intended that a harddrive could only be used on one system they would lock it or make you format it when attacthed to a new console. i currently take mine around to my brothers to play my opened tracks in guitar hero, he has never flashed his console. if they ban him, then tell me where it says you are breaking MS terms and conditions (which is why you get banned)you get banned for modifying not attaching Peripherals. But its your choice format it if you want to be safe, i just dislike people saying you will be banned when they don't no !

speaking for myself, im not saying i wont get banned, what im saying is i was told it wont effect the other console and so far it hasnt but when there is someone preaching the same crap with no evidence it ticks me off.
it seems mikeismad always trying to down the "noobs" when he should be helping out he is being a prick!
almost like a damn jehovah's witness, there always in the wright and your always wrong.
he needs to wait a month and then we should all know who had the balls to call microsoft and ask a few questions about the bans.
also why would wayneb73 be looking to get a ban here? he has done nothing wrong. ive never heard him bash someone here like i have seen some people bash others here.

No he didn't do anything to deserve a ban. It did look a bit like flame starting to me though and I've always the bad flame starters eventually get banned. That's all.

point 3. i have a girlfriend :)

and strike three. they dont ban you for changing drives, they ban you because something on the files such as your gamesaves are linked to your console, therefore its tracking your serial number on another console which is going to make them suspicious and could therefore ban you because they fear your on the same banned console but somehow got around the ban. so your way off base here.

and if this offends any of the mods then please by all means edit my posts and ill even take a suspension for this one, at least its off my chest, and i know this probably should have gone in the safety valve if i wanted to unleash some steam but sorry about this.

Oh dear I think I've touched a nerve, if MS are telling you that you can't use another hard drive on another box what do you think that means ?

You have contradicted your self by saying the women at MS told you that it was OK to use on another console.

However I bow down to your superior knowledge about how MS are banning consoles, as you seen to be the only one who has confirmed there procedure, did MS tell you that on the phone. (touch of sarcasm there)

As for not knowing anything I suggest you check out other forums, you will see the information posted that has help several people successfully flash and repair there consoles.

P.S. I don't believe the girlfriend bit !

i dont claim to know how they are banning so maybe next time you will read over my posts a little better. i do however know that i have called them and was told by two different people that i could use it safely and then told i couldnt use it. so perhaps you will take this time to reflect upon your ignorance and try again at embarrassing me. or maybe try to edit your posts that were completely wrong.

ps, to be honest i dont give a damn what you believe mister.

I hoped you have learnt that just because it says newbie it does not mean you have the write to dismiss / attack there listings. Granted I have not posted many messages but I bet I have been a member of this forum longer than most. DEC 04. People like yourself discourage users to join forums and contribute useful information. Which is bad for the majority. Sorry if any comments may have offend you but I feel strongly about bullying new members.

I have been using the same hd on my new console running ixtreme. So far the only issue I have had is that without being connected to live, any extra content I have downloaded is no longer usable. The reason being that they (ms) licenses the content to your console and live account. When you change your hd to a new console, the only way to use live content is to be connected to live. Other wise while being off live the content is locked out on your hd. Just go into any arcade games that you have downloaded the full game, while not being connected to live and it will be just the demo. It also makes your save games corrupt. So as long as your on live, having a different console doesnt matter. Otherwise your screwed. I think I posted this link before but here it is again for anyone interested.

http://www.busygamernews.com/2006/12/ran..._time_bomb.html

The biggest thing that links you to a modded box is your live account. So by formatting your hd and attaching it a new console wont matter. Some think that it (live) will flag your new machine when the serial number doesnt match the one linked to your live account. Once ms sees that they may just rescan your new machine the next 20 cycles looking for a modded box. You can format your hd 100 times and it wont matter one bit.

This is what I want to try and do.

I got a couple hundred achievement points while I was waiting to get paid to buy another xbox. Didn't realize how much time I spent online playing games instead of playing the single player mode.

When I set up the new xbox on live, of course the new achievements are not coming up. I want to put my old hard drive on the new xbox so it can go on live and update the gamerscore. Then switch back.

What do you think?
