I had my firmware modified about 6 months ago and yesterday I got the 3 rings of death. My question is, if I got another 360 could I swap out the dvd drives so the new one would have the modified one. Is this a possibility. Reason I ask is that I did not modify my dvd drive I had it done by somebody.

yeah you can, but you have to go through the same process again of flashing it.

Confused, why would I have to go through the same process when the dvd drive is already flashed? When flashing does it do something else to the xbox 360 besides the did drive?

because the dvd drive has a unique key for that particular xbox console. you will have to put the new key and input it into the new dvd drive for it to be able to work properly.

I don't mean to hijack your thread but I figured I would ask a question related to 3 rings of death.

I also am having the same 3 rings of death but I do not get a picture (No dashboard). I searched the internet for asnwers but all were the same, "Hardware related" but they did not specify the issue.

The power supply is green and the HD is also not the issue as I removed it and still no picture.

Basically what could it be?

Thanks for your reply!

As I further read some other posts elswere, it seems to be heat related. I took my whole entire 360 apart and it seems that the thermal paste migrated away from the heatsink and processor (weird). As soon as i get some GOOD thermal paste and slap everything back together (and some fingers crossed) I hope all will work again.

DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOUR WARRANTY IS EXPIRED!!!!

if you still have a waranty on your xbox then send it in. this trick is legit and it does work perfectly but i wouldnt recommend it unless you have no other alternative.

I tried the "towel trick" since my warranty has indeed expired and to my surprise it did get rid of the 3 rings of death and my 360 was running as usual but after it was on for a minute the screen would just turn black sometimes with vertical lines across the screen so idk whats wrong but I guess my 360 has no hope. Thanks for everyones input on the subject.
