Hi, right now im getting Pokemon NTSC(J), is it correct that the 2.2J Updater will not work from it? Previously I had used an internet update for my 2.2J update which means the game shouldnt have a newer update than the one i got right?. If it does work(doubtful), what should i do? I know that if it doesnt, all I can do is wait for the 2.3J updater or a new Japanese game to release, as that may have an even newer 2.2J. But above all, i dont really mind since its only a settings page and my internet works on it. Thanks for your response Larry ^^! I have also found another problem, I cant seem to be able to type anything when im on the messageboard. Do you think a future update can fix this?

Hey Kevin, does the Pokemon Battle Revolution NTSC-J come with an update? I'll get it to fix my semi-bricked wii (due to strikers). Thanks!

It depends what version your on. Dont update from 2.1, you must go from 2.2U or whatever. Im guessing it has an update, but best bet is to, like myself, wait for a new version to come out, to overwrite the firmware, and most likely they will change something in the settings again in one of their future updates. JP games with 2.2J are very hard to find now, as the wii has been out for quite a while over there. Pokemon may have an update, but it does not mean the update will recover your settings menu. This is what i got told by a Wii Staff in the UK, he told me that if you want any new updates, for 2.2 or whatever, you need 1st party games, like games created specifically from Nintendo. For example my mario party 8 game(U)was a first party game but it only changed some stuff on my wii channel and my settings was never touched, so i was fine back then. Hope some of this has helped, if its confusing just tell me.

You said you had your NTSC(J) Wii already updated to 2.2J but I do not see how this was possible. Big Brain Academy would not do a 2.2J to 2.2U update. The only way the update would have been applied is if your NTSC(J) Wii was at 2.1J version or below.

There are no game disc out with a firmware version higher then 2.2 since that is the current firmware version as of now. You will need to wait till a higher version comes out above 2.2J on a game disc to unbrick your Wii Settings.

It did not change the version of my wii, but it did remove my settings. I am still on 2.2J, but I was just suggesting that Pokemon, may have an update that may fix the problem. Since i updated to 2.2J, i had 2 updates, the mario party 8 update didnt change anything critical, but this time it got rid of my settings. If it still asked for a update even though i was on 2.2J I would expect a NTSC (J) game to also have an update, unless only the US games update my system. If it cant be helped, I guess I will get the newest NTSC(J) games with updates when they are out, and read to see what it changes.

UPDATE
Looks like Pokemon didnt update much so therefore it didnt fix my problems. Im curious what could reverse the changes from BIg Brain academy (U) since it helps to "unbrick" other Wii's.

Hey, just confirming that running the update on "Big Brain Academy" does fix partially bricked US Wii's (thank God).

I Inserted the disc and proceeded to update. It failed the first time, reset itself and I tried again with much success. My Wii is back to normal.

Sure, just come to this thread every now and then. Im pretty sure a new update will fix the problems. But atleast the games are playable, thats all that matters really. Internet can be used via pc, and I only ever message my friends that go on MSN. But, wait till the end of June, I got told by one of the staffs at nintendo to wait until June, because he said there will be many first party games coming out, and there could be an update that could just fix our Wii's!

So you're saying if I updated to 2.2E by mistake, then throw in Big Brain Academy, I will then have access to my Wii Settings again??

If you are going to download a Wii game then you should probably run Wii Brick Blocker on the ISO before you burn it...

Grab it here, the site may be in french but im sure you're smart enough to click the download link ;-)

If you happened to brick your Wii Settings with a 2.2E firmware then running Big Brain Academy would not fix the semi-brick.

Big Brain Academy has a 2.2U firmware so updating a Wii System with a 2.2 firmware already on it would just skip the Big Brain Academy 2.2U Update due to the Wii being updated to the 2.2 firmware already.

You will need to wait until a firmware higher then 2.2U comes out on an NTSC(U) Game Disc in order to unbrick the Wii Settings.

If the brick issue happened with Mario Strikers then your in luck because the Mario Strikers firmware version update is 2.1E so updating with the Big Brain Academy 2.2U firmware will unbrick your Wii settings due to it being a higher firmware then what was on Mario Strikers.

I've got a PAL Wii with Cyclowiz (FW 3.0b)

I dl Big Brain Academy (US version) and it wanted to install an update. I checked my Wii was on 2.2E and let it go- the update went through but took longer than I was expecting and I now have a problem (I'll come to that in a second). I think the Big Brain Academy has version 2.21U on it or is date-stamped as 'newer' so it performs the update even if the version is the same. Thoughts?

Anyway- my problem:

The BBA 2.2U update has left my Wii working fine... for original games. But it wont now load any back-ups. Either PAL or NTSC.

I guess I'm in the same boat as everyone else- waiting for the next update to fix it.
Will re-formatting the Wii fix this?

Anyone come across this?

Big Brain Academy - what it gives with one hand, it takes away with the other...

The PAL version has not been released yet for Big Brain Academy.

The Japan version has been released but it is titled Wii de Yawaraka Atama Juku

So Big Brain Academy title should only be the NTSC(U) release.

I think the problem lies in only 2 games(as far as i know) that will force update and partial brick the Wii, regardless whether you have the latest firmware or not. The 2 games are Big Brain Academy and Pokemon. I just partially bricked my updated 2.2J Wii with Pokemon Revolution. Eventhough I was already on 2.2J, Pokemon still insisted on updating my Wii. Now I will need to find a Jap version of Pokemon to force update my Wii back to 2.2J.

Hi everyone,
I was just wondering, can anyone tell me the diff between a bricked and a semi bricked wii? Did those of you who bricked it completely ever do any other updates?

This game is the first one I tried :( so I had never updated my wii, but I thought the game was NTSC. It was stuck on the update screen. I'm pretty sure this will completely brick my wii. If it does, I guess I cannot update with the Brain Academy game; did anyone who got a full brick try it.

Also for anyone that got bricked due to paper mario, were they able to unbrick by updating to 2.2 of their region?

Thanks.

I thought that if your Wii firmware was properly updated via the internet menu that you could never brick your system?

SO I.E. lets say I update to 2.2U via the menu, if I insert a 2.2J or 2.2E game, it will ask me to update but it won't really update anything and nothing will get bricked right?

But it seemed Silver_Z did this and he still got semi-bricked

Larry you seem to be the authority can you fill me in?

I'm a newbie and read a lot of post about bricked wii. Because it did happens on my new wii that I just bought few days ago. :(
I can tell that Pokemon Battle Revolution NTSC-J with firmware update will not unbrick what Mario striker charge bricked in my Japan Wii.
When I insert Pokemon disc and it prompt me to update firmware, with just a few seconds the firmware is updated complete. After that, I restart my Wii and found that I still not be able to access those setting page.
I also found that it will skip confirmation of the update and update directly. It's terrible if kids put in the wrong disc then everything goes blah blah blah...

brucedlx: Yep. Mine was an updated Wii of version 2.2J. Mario Striker Charged and Paper Mario runs fine. Somehow Pokemon updated my Wii even when it is already 2.2J and bricked my Settings page. I tried using a copy of the Jap Pokemon, but it didn't work. Seems like I have to wait for Version 2.4J or something that comes on a Disc.

I HAVE THE PAL GAME PATCHED TO NTSC.
YOU MUST HAVE YOUR WII UPDATED TO 2.2U FIRST ON YOUR WII.
THEN WHEN YOU INSERT THE GAME IT WILL STILL ASK YOU TO UPDATE WHICH IS OK. THEN JUST PLAY....

how do you use the Wii Brick Blocker?
i've downloaded the Big Brain Academy game to my PC, does that already include the ISO file? Also what kind of blank DVD should i use when i 'll burn it?

lastly if i want to have the 2.2U update from the BigBrainAcademy, should i still use the Brick Blocker?

can anyone clear things here for me?, thanks!

Try and you might, don't and you won't!
