My PS2 is SCPH-70011 and ever since it doesn't agree with burnt games (thread title). Here's a list of what I did to make it work.
1) I bought swap tools but they ended up being the wrong ones for the type of PS2 I had, so instead I used paper towel and tape method.
2) Games that had lots of loading (Guitar Hero) took atleast 2 hours to get to the main menu, would of taken longer if I had watched the intro video because that stuttered every 2 or so seconds and stayed like that for atleast 10 seconds, when it finally got to the song it would stutter during gameplay .This game was used on my older big PS2 and worked just fine, the only problem was my PS2 didn't boot discs well and after awhile it just quit.
3) Games that had short load times but loaded them in areas (Rule of Rose) worked fine and the cutscenes stuttered only about 4 times for about 1 second. When it got to a certain part of the game it froze after cutscenes, unplayable.
4) Spider-man 3 god through cutscenes well but in gameplay it would stutter like crazy and sound got delayed a lot.
5) God of War 2 is the only game that has been fully playable except the music stuttered or repeated after about 10 seconds.
6) I burnt Guitar Hero at a slower speed, I tried to get my friend to test the cutscene but he skipped it, the gameplay still skipped a lot making the game unplayable (also Spider-man 3 was burnt at the same speed).
That is pretty much what I've tried and havn't been able to fix, my burner won't go lower than 1x. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the PS2 because it plays normal games just fine. I've also tried special boot and that didn't work either.
Games that I've tested so far:
(Name/what happened/Media Used/Speed burnt)
God of War 2 (explained what happened) Maxell DVD-R 4x
Spider-man 3 (" ") Maxell DVD-R 2x
Dragonball Z TB2 (Long load times, CPU players didn't respond fast enough or at all) Imation DVD+R 4x
Pirates LOTBB (Stuttered during cutscenes and I didn't bother trying after that) Maxell DVD-R 2x
Rule of Rose (Explained what happened)Imation DVD-R 4x
Steambot Chronicles (Got to main menu fine but sound lagged behind so I didn't bother to try after that) Imation DVD-R 4x
Guitar Hero 2 (Explained already)Imation DVD+R Maxell DVD+R 4x 8x 2x
I agree with the above poster. I would atleast try some slightly better media. I don't know about your burner, but so far I haven't had any problems using Verbatim DVD+R's burned at 4x. BestBuy every other week has a deal where you can get 30 for $20 which isn't too bad, and they're lightscribe discs, so I can use my other burner to make nice labels!
I'll try better discs, but it won't be from the store I bought them from only have like 2 brands of DVDs then they have their own kind of DVDs. I have tried a verbatim at x4 but it was dual layered (for Rogue Galaxy) and it said it wasn't a PS2 DVD when I tried to play it.
SwapMagic cannot load dual layered games. You'd have to rebuild Rogue Galaxy so it'll fit on a single disc. I'd retry with just some regular verbatims at 4x speed and see if that works!
