I used to know how to burn dvds to dvd-rs then i stopped for acouple months and cant remember but this is what i do remember:

1. use smartripper to get rid of the menu and extras
2. use ifoedit to create new ifo files then transfer the vob files in a new folder with the new ifo files
3. use ifoedit to get vts sectors
4. use nero dvd complication dvd movie format to burn

when i do this it tells me in nero that i have an error that says DVD-video files compliance test failed.

what do i do to fix this????

Hey there , first off your going through way to many steps ALl you need to do is ripp the dvd with shrink into a folder labled VIDEO_TS make sure its in all caps thats very important. After you have done this just use nero to burn the cd. Check out the user guide located @ http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/nero.htm Very usefull stuff. If using nero 5 do just as the guide says. If using nero 6 do just as the guide says but instead of using the DVD-udf/ifo format use the DVD-video format. Good luck

LOL had to laugh at your spelling mistake on point 4.

Kinda funny that one as you read it, cos people still encounter some issues with Nero.....LOL

Your method should work if on point 2. you transfer ALL into a folder called VIDEO_TS (in uppercase)....

That method was the original method (I use to use it) and usually worked quite well.

However since your absence there have been many developments in the form of (previously stated) Dvd2one or Dvd Shrink...

These are excellent to use and give good results...

Dvd2one will cost you some dosh, but worth it...goto http://www.dvd2one.com and have a read......

However Dvd Shrink is free and available in the downloads section here at afterdawn.....

Both are compression proggies and basically enables you to backup a FULL disc, they do compress the video so obviously there is a slight loss in quality especially if it is a large filed movie.....

Dvd2one can compress/join and produce a dvd compliant set of files that just need to be added to a folder called VIDEO_TS (in uppercase) and is basically a one hit wonder.....then just burn the folder.....you would need to rip the movie first using Smartripper/Dvd Decrypter first though....

Dvd Shrink however can rip/strip/compress/reauthor directly from the disc and produces dvd compliant files, again just point them ALL into a folder called VIDEO_TS and just burn the folder....

Personally, I think you have some catch up reading to do and the link which cnmsales provided is a great way to get back into it, explanations/downloads/user guides and a host of other info.......they will be to your benefit......

I think, you would be better to have a play around with Dvd Shrink (as it is free) and also will give you a good insight in how powerful a tool it really is.....check out the Dvd Shrink guide at the link above......

Any Q's just let us know......Good luck..... _

Try using DVD Shrink. It will rip and shrink the files all ready for burning in one go - can't beat it really. I have used Memorex with Shrink and they worked fine, although I don't recommend Memorex in actual fact since they sometimes do have poor outer rims which can cause freezing before the end of the movie..

Avoid Princo discs - although some are OK, most give problems and you won;'t know until you start using them. I would suggest you take a look at the DVD-R media discussion threads for the latest on disc quality. In general the more you spend the less likely you are to encounter problems.
