this may sound weird and i'm sorry if it doesnt belong here but when I use DVD Shrink it mostly says "needs to compress"....and it shows the %'s it needs to fit a reg DVD. My question is....is the number it needs to be compressed better if its Larger or Smaller....in other words say a DVD says it needs 63% compression what exactly does that MEAN????
In the case cited, the compressed file will be 63% the size of the original. The original file will have a 100% compression level, so a bigger number under compression actually means less compression.
thanks for the info....now is there a STANDARD or ACCEPTABLE % most people would use?...by this i mean is there a % that has TOO much compression and wouldnt make a good copy???
for instance say "never use 50% or lower compression??? as an example
The higher the compression %, the better the video quality. I don't like to go any lower than 80-85%. If the compression requires any number lower than 80%, I use a program called VobBlanker to split the movie in half so I can put it on 2 single layer discs and have 100% compression (ideal %) and have all menus working and intact. Another program you can also try, is Dvd Rebuilder. Haven't used it yet but hear it is also a wonderful program to use.
on my old 27 inch CRT i compressed to mid-70%s without a problem; i liked to keep special-effects laden stuff to 80% if possible.
but now with my 40 inch, 720p LCD TV i notice decreased picture quality once i go below 90% and now i do a deep-analysis on anything less than 92-94%. i've also been splitting some of my newer movies that require compression down into the 60%s.
