a screwdriver to open the ps2 up and the tape to tape down the sensor that knows when you open the ps2 lid so it doesn't stop spinning

Hey, people. . .can anyone tell me what "hacked" means? I'm actually thinking of buying one of two PS2s, and one says it's hacked. That one's a slim. What does it mean????? T_T

so what? on the old ps2s you didnt even need to open up the player all you needed was the snap off or unscrew the front tray cover then jimmy the tray arm pusher thingy with a knife. commonly refered to as "the knife trick" it let you play backups without even voiding your warenty.

Your actually suppose to make or buy a slidecard, not use a knife. And you still need Swap Magic for that to work.

Hacked means that it is most likely modded so that it can play back up discs. If they were smart it would be with a mod chip. If not they probably did some cheap junky mod like the tape & tissue mod or the straw mod.
Did they mention anything about the unit coming with SWap Magic or anything like that?

well, i prefer the older fat versions as they are easily modded and you can slap a nice big hard drive in one. The slim models (other than V12 & V13) you are stuck with a USB external hard drive which sucks. It is slow and game compatibility is not as good.
A V12 or V13 can be put in an HD Combo case with an internal hard drive, but it can be an expensive mod.

I would say figure out what you want to do and then decide which to buy, If an internal hard drive to store and play most of your games (about 95%) sounds good to you then i say get the fat older model. Then get it chipped with a DMS4 Pro SE or CRystal Chip V2.0(better for people who play online as it can auto patch back ups).
Or the cheaper way which will work but be a little more of a hassle, you can get Swap Magic to play the back up games, make a slidecard, and use a memory card exploit of HD Loader to run the hard drive.

I never use mine so i think my Xbox, and 2 PS2's will be out the door soon too.

With all of this talk about hacking the ps2 to play dvd copies without needing to buy anything...

has anyone bothered to really try to find a way?
like... doing some tinkering with the actual electronics?

that is, after all, how i figured out that an Atari 2600 was capable of stereo audio output...
