I'm a newbie so be gentle! I am attempting my 1st burn. I ripped my files using DVDdecryptor & tried using Nero 6.0 to burn. But it tells me there are no IFO, VOB, BUP files present. They do appear to be in the Nero window's. Any suggestion'S ? Am I in the correct forum to ask this question. Thanx.

You are in the correct Forum (thanks for asking that btw) !!: )
In Nero 6 , open Nero Express & hit DVD Tab...then DVD-Video icon.
Next hit add then when in there double click on red VIDEO_TS folder , then hit add again in that box & when given folder options goto files Decrypted (take it the files in total are less that 4.37Gb) and select all via right click on one of the files. Hit finished .
Burn !! : )

Nero Burning Rom guide (a bit more indepth):
-----------------------------
Open Nero Burning Rom
Hit DVD in the Drive options drop down box & then DVD-Video on the the left hand column.
We'll do the settings while we're here...
No Multi-session
ISO Tab:ISO Level 1
I have Joliet box ticked & ISO9660...all un-checked in boxes below
Right , hit 'New' in the top right corner.
In the far left column , double click on red VIDEO_TS folder.
Find your DVD Files from browser & select all..drag n drop them to empty column (2nd from left).
Hit the Burn icon which is the disc with a match in front it...choose speed of burn & do exactly that BURN !!: )
alternative
Open Nero Express & select DVD Drive in drop down box.
Hit DVD-Video
On next screen you double click on red VIDEO_TS folder.
Then on the right click 'add'
Select folder from which you'll select all VOB BUP IFO files & hit 'add' button...then finished button after all files are added.
Next screen will give you chance to name your disk (if you so wish) & also the option of speed of burn.
No. of copies 1
Neither of the boxes checked underneath [Multi-session & verification of burnt files]
BURN !!
P.S. In the settings make sure you are on UDF 1.02

Another newbie here.
When I run Nero and try to add files - the files I ripped are named vts_01_1.vob, vts_01_2.vob, vts_01_3.vob, vts_01_4.vob vts_01_0.buf and vts_01_0.ifo.
Nero gives an error :
"required file VIDEO_TS.IFO is not present"
"required file VIDEO_TS.BUF is not present"
I renamed the .buf and .ifo files and get other error messages.
Please help??
Note: the files play with a DVD player ok.

Here's a tip for you and other 'newbies'
Give all the detail you can when you ask for help.
What did you rip it with?
You haven't ripped all the files whatever you ripped it with was set up not to rip all the files
Easy start:
Rip the whole disc in file mode, select all the files
Run it through DVD2one
this will give you all the right files and you can't go wrong.

jjc71538,
I somewhat followed Herb's directions above in the thread. For a straight-forward DVD5 burn I use DVD Shrink & Nero express. Just making sure I'm in DVD Video mode. After compressing the file with DVD Shrink I open Nero, then open the VIDEO_TS file, go to the folder where I backed up the movie with Shrink, click add, then burn it. It's worked for the past 7 burns flawlessly.

It was ripped with DVD Ripper & Copying Suite v.4.0. I ran the existing files from it with DVD2One and the burn was successful.
What actually does DVD2One do?
BTW - I'm a newbie with regard to burning DVD's
and a computer engineer for 40 years.
There seems to be many DVD/CD burn programs and steps in the burn process. What's the best way to sort them out?

"BTW - I'm a newbie with regard to burning DVDs

Then you should know better than not to post the details lol
"Copying Suite v.4.0"
Never heard of this no idea what it adds to the equation.
DVD2one strips out extras and unnecessary sound streams.
It will also compress the files to fit on one DVD (4.37GB).
It is not the best way to get the files on one disc (quality wise) but it is the easiest and cheapest (free!!)(along with DVD Shrink)
Other options such as re-encoding the video take hours and involve many steps so unless you are keen then I'd stick to stripping out extras and compressing movies or splitting them to two discs if the film is very long.
All you need is:
1)a ripping prog (I favour DVD decrypter)
2)a stripping and shrinking prog I favour DVD2one
NOTE DVD Shrink will do 1&2 for you if you want.
3) a burning program (I favour Prassi Primo DVD, which is the same program as Record Now Max. Nero is OK but buggy)
That's all you need to start with.
If you want to get into it more you need:
IFOedit (excellent program to strip extras and split movies to two discs and can be used to re-author demuxed streams (used when re encoding movies) but not very intuitive
Tmpeg for re-encoding (or CCE if you have money to burn or no piracy ethics:-) )
Plus a whole bunch of other tools for the many steps in the re-encoding funpark
There are many guides for using them
http://www.dvd2dvdr.com/index.htm is a good place to start

Guess you can't take a hint. Your remark was very unprofessional.
Thank you very much for your other insightful and very helpful (professional) comments.

These are the only things needed:
DVD Decrypter ( or SmartRipper )
DVD2One ( or DVD Shrink)
Nero
If doing a movie-only rip :
VIDEO_TS BUP 16,384
VIDEO_TS IFO 16,384
VIDEO_TS VOB 43,008
VTS_01_0 BUP 77,824
VTS_01_0 IFO 77,824
VTS_01_0 VOB 1,695,744
VTS_01_1 VOB 1,073,565,696\
VTS_01_2 VOB 1,048,565,696 \ <-- This is the Main movie
VTS_01_3 VOB 1,048,565,696 /
VTS_01_4 VOB 589,365,248 /
VTS_02_0 BUP 18,432
VTS_02_0 IFO 18,432
VTS_02_0 VOB 43,008
VTS_02_1 VOB 6,014,976
You'd select the VOB files as pointed out & you would also need the title set IFO which is always 2 above the main movie VOB (s). So in this cae it would be the file: VTS_01_0 IFO 77,824
Then run these through DVD2One and it will add whatever BUP or IFO files that are needed to be burned in a VIDEO_TS (w/out that error occuring that you mentioned in Nero)
You should be all set now...

Do Computer engineers not have a sense of humour these days?
The comment was a joke hence the 'lol' after it.
If the comment was unprofessional it's because nobody is paying me to elevate the comments that I give to professional status
