Question about swaping out at WalMart

My friends 360 just got the red rings of death error and he called MS and they told him $180 to fix it, guess his warranty was up, so I was telling him to just do the swap out at WalMart but he said he didnt think he could because he registered his console. So I guess my question is, does that really matter?

that shouldnt matter, he should just take it to walmart and swap it. walmart isnt going to check if it is registered or anything. they will just give you a new one

Yeah but I think his issue is that when WalMart returns or sends it back to MS that they will check on the console and see that it was registered to him.

what are they going to do? arrest you? its not illegal once they already swapped it out. dont worry about it, if they call him up saying something then tell him to laugh at them and then hang up lol.

If its bought from walmart they'll exchange it for a new one with no hassels even if u dont have receipt.

lol mine will, even if you take a pack of verbatim dual layer dvd cases that have memorex single layer dvds in them. of course you can only exchange them for more verbs though.

how long do you have to exchange stuff like that. i need a new xbox and i am trying to decide where to buy from. games stop has a 1 year replacement plan for $60. do you have to buy a warrenty at walmart or do they simply let you switch for a new one?

just tell them you got it at a walmart in a different state and you dont have your reciept that you bought it coming back home from vacation about 4 days ago and tell them you just want to exchange it. they should let you.

I bought my 360 Premium pack a short while after launch, and sure enough 9 months later the dreaded ring of death, I bought a heat gun took it apart several times used artic5 silver, it would work a little while, then I got so sick of it I bought a premium pack again at Sam?s Club, swapped it and returned It, hell it?s M$?s fault let them sort it out. Pay 180 to fix there mistakes bologna; this was Oct or Nov of 2006 no questions asked and I registered it and modded it. I only swapped the unit not anything else.

thats a good idea to. i just talked to my cousin and he bought one last week at target. he said that i could just have his recite. i am just going to take it back and get a new one.

We did use the receipt, but they didn?t check the serial number with the receipt, Sam?s Club they didn?t check it at all. Probably won?t check serials there either, but it is a chance
we had to take. Smaller town USA Good Luck with your choices, hope it works out for you.

so i went to walmart today with my xbox hoping to switch it out. i went back to the electronics and started talking to one of the guys. he took me to talk to someone else and the other guy did that to. then i was finaly told that since i did not have a reciete that i would not be able to switch for a new xbox. also they said that it didnt matter anyway because they didnt have any left. so i go to leave the store and when i walk out the door the alarm goes off. then one of the walmart greeters runs over and grabs me. he said that i needed to come with him and he asked if i had a reciete for it and i told him no that it was mine and i tried to exchange it. he took me to customer service and asked them if they had seen me they said no. they he took me to the door that i came in the first time and the greeter there said she had never seen me. but she was old so i doubt that she ever remembers her own name. so then i said lets go back to the electronic area. there are some guys back there that can tell you that it is my xbox. so we did and he was like ok you are free to go. so then he escorts me to the front and we walk out the door and the alarm goes off agian. i dont know how a year old xbox bought at costco would set off their detecters but it did. ao now i need to either come up with a different way to get a new xbox or just buy a new one.

This is what im thinking about doing, my 360 gave me the 3 lights about 3 weeks ago and I have used the towel trick since to get it to work(i know i know...)What you should do is take it to target since thats where youre cousin got the new one at.Open BOTH of the up CAREFULY and swap out the case and keep the original case with the new mobo and return the new case with the old mobo.This is what I want to do it might work.Its worth a shot(blowdry the warrenty stickers off and put them on wax paper,so they wont mess up)

thats what i was thinking what idiots they are all discussing it freely and one goes that if M$ calls you telling that it was swapped and serial doesn't match or something laugh at them, WAIT, THEY HAVE YOUR INFO!! You can't laugh because since its registered i think they have your address they can give it to walmart so they get their money back since M$ won't pay them shit!
PLUS at my walmart i saw this guy who swapped a broken lcd tv and the serials didn't match the box, since walmart is losing a lot on their return policy they called the cops and charged him!! guy was right ahead of me in line at the return desk!!
