I'm considering buying my friend's unmodded 360 premium, but I've read some posts about how people's xboxs are getting banned. I want to play backedup games, and use XBL but I don't think that the XBL will be nearly as important. So here are my questions:

1. Is their a modchip or other mod that wont get my xbox banned and still allow me to play backups?

2. Is XBL really all that great? Is it really worth passing up the ability to play backups?

3. Are their any general things I need to know before I buy and start messing around with it? i.e. I bought a PSP last year and updated the FW before I did any research and found out that was a big mistake (all good now though).
