Quick question, I have TVersity installed and my PS3 see's it as a media server, I can also see all of my videos on my PS3 but the PS3 comes up with the error saying "file type not supported" when i try to play a video on the PS3. These are divx/xvid videos and transcoding is turned on for TVersity, any idea why the PS3 wont play them?

Is there anyway to use TVersity with a 20 GB. PS3. I don't have wireless capabilities and would be very interested in using TVersity via Ethernet or USB connection. Thanks for any help.

same problem with tversity - newest version, newest firmware. it works fine when windows firewall's off, but with it on - even making the exception for the program - it blocks it. someone mentioned making new ports for it; i see that option in windows firewall, how do you do this properly tho?

Thanks for the info liamrabey. Will TVersity's website tell me how to set it up for this or is there another source that you would recommend. I am very interested in this product but I am completely clueless on how it works. If you have a home theater question I am your man but when it comes to networking, I am a little slow.

Set it up exactly as you would for wireless but just have the PS3 set to connect via wired connection. There is no difference between wired and wireless networking it just the medium devices use to send information from one place to another.

I was going to create a thread, but this seems to be the correct place to post.

this is really buggin me, some one help me with my problem.

I got my media server streaming and its been working fine, but there is like 7 files (movie, real media) that can not be streamed. Its wierd because i can stream real media files and now these ones give me a message.

Quote:
Access to the media server has been denied. Check the
settings for the media server.

closely followed by this message

Quote:
A connection to the media server could not be established. Check the settings for the media server and network devices.
If someone else are having this problem and have successfully overcome it, put me out of my misery, please!

A few things you should know:
1. I use windows firewall, still had no luck with it switched on or off.
2. I have tried restarting the media server, no luck.
3. I have tried refreshing the whole library, no luck.
4. I have tried waiting several moments to allow time for the ps3 to receive the files and then try again, no luck.

If anyone can think of other ways to overcome this problem, tell me please.

Your files need to generally be playable in Windows Media Player for TVersity to convert them, I am using this program to play real media clips that I would normally use Media Player Classic to play, first off they didnt work. I had to download a codec, so google would be your best bet. as soon as your files become playable in WMP I would say they should work via server.

Has anybody figured out a solution for changing the icon that PS3 displays in the XMB for the TVersity (or any other DLNA application)?

It's not that I do not like the current icon that much, but it could be much better.

thanks for helping :). But I don't think what your saying is true in my case. I have played lots of .rm files through TVersity. I went into wmp and tried to play, and none of the .rm files worked, even though I have streamed them through TVersity. I have no doubt that what you are saying is true, but my case is an exception some what. Can you think of anything else?

PS. The codecs I have downloaded are K-Lite. Had them since I got TVersity, they are the correct codecs aren't they?

I had used the K-lite pack for playing everything on my PC previous to trying Tversity. Tversity needs to use a Windows Directshow based codec, might not be directshow but its something like that.

I just found the file on my computer so download http://upload2.net/page/download/IZ8zsaY...051125.rar.html
if it asks for a password use gSeB1rmRVQGnRni . Copy that RealMediaSplitter.ax file into your WINDOWS/SYSTEM32 folder. Then Click the start menu and go to RUN and type: regsvr32 RealMediaSplitter.ax .

Thats what fixed my problem so do that then try your files in both WMP and TVersity.

Well what do you know. That little trick seems to have worked! Now the files that werent playing now work in bot WMP and TVersity. Thanks for the help mate it was really beginning to p**s me off.

One final question, why do you think that some .rm files would work yet others would not?

Anyone feel like writing a quick tutorial on how to set up Tversity with a 20 Gb PS3 (wired connection). I have spent countless hours trying to get my PS3 to recognize the server. Once I had it for about 30 min and then inexplicably it disappeared. Without some serious assistance, I am done with this thing. I should also point out that I got the server to work via WMP11 thanks to stickweed. The problem was that my PC basically died with WMP11 installed so I had to go back to WMP10.

Strange but I too had that exact same problem with m4v/mp4 files as well. Gotta do the same kind of thing that you did for those .rm files, luckily enough I still have the files on my PC again, so download this http://upload2.net/page/download/9hRmtyb...060310.rar.html

Copy the file to WINDOWS/SYSTEM32 folder like before and register it like you did before.
Now it should work, the reason some work and others dont has something to do with what programs were used to create/encode the file and what versions of codecs were used.

Also if that file doesnt work search on http://www.free-codecs.com for a .m4v codec.

EDIT:airball I'll have a look into using a wired connection, Im currently using wireless.

I just tried it and had no problems, basically all i did was change it from Wireless to Wired on my PS3, and plug in the network cord (that came with my PS3) and then Scan For Media Server.

First thing you want to do would be giving your PS3 and your PC static IP addresses to avoid any conflict, then make sure your firewall has TVersity allowed (and its correct port) then make sure your files are added to Tversity sharing. Then just "Start Sharing". Im not sure on the level of computer knowledge you have so if you need more in depth instructions ask.

Andrew691, I am going to give your suggestions as a try and see what I get. Although I am fairly knowledgeable with computers, I have very little experience with networking, servers, ect. My main area of expertise is home theater. I am going to try your suggestions and I will post back. Again thanks for your time and effort.

I have it set up for a wired connection, windows firewall disabled, sharing has been started, the only thing that I don't know how to do is set up a static IP address. I assume that I need to do this on both my computer and PS3.?

To set the IP on the PS3 go into the network setup, when it says Address Settings choose custom, then auto-detect, then manual. Press X when the IP Address field is selected and press up or down until you have the number 192 in the first box, press right (arrow) to change the second box to 168 then the next at 0 then the last at 2. So it should look like 192.168.0.2. For subnet mask enter 255.255.255.0. Cant remember if the other setting are needed but if they are set Default Router as 192.168.0.1 and just put anything for Primary DNS Server. Finish the rest of the setup.

On the PC (Windows), click Start menu<--Connect To and click Show All Connections. Right click your Local Area Connection and select Properties, in the Properties window there should be a scrollable box which has TCP/IP Settings, double click it. For IP enter 192.168.0.1 subnet mask should auto fill itself in when you click it but if it doesnt enter 255.255.255.0.

Thats everything setup properly now all you need to do is choose scan for media servers on the PS3.

We are getting closer. When I tested the IP address it "succeeded" but it failed on the Internet connection. "An error occurred during communication with server. This is a DNS error (89710102." And when I search for a media server it still doesn't find one. Is there any way to tell if I am using the right port. Sorry if I am a moron :)

Yeah its not currently setup to use internet, if you want you can activate Internet Connection Sharing on the PC and it should work but you might need to find the correct DNS Server.

What was the problem with Windows Media Player 11?, if you can reinstall it then try again with these settings...

Did you "Start Sharing"? if so try clicking "Restart Sharing". Other than that what other settings have you changed? Installing those files I posted that make for .rm files play wouldnt have effected it in any way.
