Copying save games from cds to MC with Swap Magic

I've been trying to make PS2Menu's save transfer system to work on my PS2 lately, but to no luck. I'm using Swap Magic and tried both the cdr swap disc and dvd swap disc. Is it possible to actually use the cdr save transfer with the swap discs or will it only work on modded PS2?

Sorry if this question has been asked and answered 100 times before, i couldn't find much info on it.
