Reading an unfinalized dvd...

I have a dvd with a video file burned onto it but it wasn't finalized...my computer just says it's a cd and I can't rip the dvd files off of it...any suggestions?

If you happen to have Nero Vision Express you can try that. It has worked for me in the past for this same situation.

well I have nerovision express but how would I go about using it to extract the video?

Click on add video files and browse to the disc. Make sure you have "all files (*,*)" selected where it says supported files in the drop down box or you wont see your files. This has always worked for me.

does exactly what I thought it would do...nothing

I go to add the files and it just shows the disk being blank

and I'm positive the files are on there because it plays in a stand alone dvd player...I don't have anything to record to my comp from the dvd player so that isn't an option...........

The DVD sounds like a DVD+R. It's format can often be read by players even though the disc is not finalized because the HF wobble works as part of the format structure. There are two choices, and either one may also work for a DVD-R:
1) finalize the disc in the recorder that recorded the data. No other recorder will work.
2) try to read the data from a DVD-ROM drive. These drives do not read all the ADIP information and can often read an unfinalized disc. A DVD recording drive will not work because they all read the full ADIP section.
