I have tried everything with this PSP.
I have one with a 2.71FW and it's also a TA-082 unit, I was able to read both numbers. I'm trying to downgrade it to play emulators.

I have used two different downgraders
1. TA-082 downgrader by Dark-Alex (Hend).
2. 2.71 ta-082 ta-086 downgrader with (1.5 Enabler).

I always get one of two error messages.
1. Error Decrypting DATA.PSP
2. Extracting Prxs. Wrong PDP File.
Then it restarts.

Was I suppose to do something, that I didn't. Please help me

Don't make multiple threads about the same thing. And try using a guide to make sure you don't mess up.

Heres a guide to take a ver. 2.71 PSP with your motherboard to firmware 1.5

To begin with put aside all the files you already have for the downgrade in a separate folder and format your memory stick. I say this to ensure two things 1)that you don't get the files I give you and the ones you already have mixed up, and 2) formatting the memorystick before a downgrade decreases your chance of bricking.

Okay to begin you will need the TA-082 2.71 Downgrade Files and the firmware 1.5 update files. Download links below...

TA-082 2.71 Downgrade Files
Firmware 1.5 Update

Now to prepare to downgrade...

1)1. Open the 2.71 TA-82 downloaded files and extract all files to the root (topmost/first folder) of the memory stick. As shown below...

2)Copy over the 1.5 update EBOOT.PBP renamed to UPDATE.PBP into X:\PSP\GAME\UPDATE\ Were X is the drive letter for your memory stick.

3)Now either terminate the USB connection or remove the memory card and insert it abck into your PSP. Start your PSP and run HEN D by going to the photo menu and entering the HEN D folder.

Note: For the next few steps make sure your battery is charged to at least 75% and your charger plugged in.

4)Go to the GAME menu and and run 1.50 enabler.

Read: The 1.5 enabler will tell you if you can run 1.5 or not. If it says you cannot press X to alter keys, don't continue till it says your settings will run 1.5

5)When the program exits back to the XMB run UPDATE X.YZ.

6)When your PSP has finished downgrading press X to restart your PSP.

7)When you turn your PSP on there will be a blue screen with a bunch of words and letters and what not. It will say to press O, so Press O.

8)Congradulations your now at firmware 1.5!

This excellent guide taken from...

Also once downgraded to firmware 1.5 I presume you wish to upgrade to a custom firmware like 3.03 OE-C for example. So to help you out I have included links to download installers that make the install process for firmware 3.03 OE-C, 3.40 OE-A, and 1.5 Recovery mode easy as pie.

3.03 OE-C Easy Installer

3.40 OE-A Easy Installer

Firmware 1.5 Recovery Mode Easy Installer (you want this trust me)

Well most likely the PSP didn't "freeze" it was awaiting a hard reset and for you too reboot it. But since you....

you bricked it.

Do I put them in the MP_Root folder...when I plug in my psp the first two folders that show up are MP_ROOT and PSP,and MEMSTICK.IND and MSTK_PRO.IND files...I don't understand what the topmost/first folder is..please expain.

Okay I'll try and clarify a bit. Okay, you know when you plug in your memory stick the window pops up that has the folders MP_ROOT and PSP? You just paste them right into that window. Not the MP_ROOT folder, not the PSP Folder but in the same space those are in. Again not in them but in the same white space that they are. I tried to make a picture to help you out...

^ I went into my psp and ran the HEND file then the screen turned RED and now it's black...what does this mean..what's the next step? Did I brick it?

Thx.

Like I said above, it was a success but now my question is:

This was my first downgrade and I've never had an OE version before, so can I automatically upgrade directly from the 3.40 OE-A link which is posted above or do I have to first install an upgrade of 3.30 OE-A?

Can you please tell me a little bit more about how to upgrade?

Once again thank you.

Before you go about installing any custom firmware or messing with the PSP lets make this clear for everyone. You are currently at firmware 1.5 correct?

If so post back as I have links to easy installers for 3.03 OE-C, 3.40 OE-A, and 1.5 Recovery Mode.

Yes we ran x.yz, in fact we ran every step with success and the firmware is now 1.50.

Yes I'm at 1.50 firmware and now need a walkthrough of how to install 3.40 OE-A.

The 1.5 Recovery Mode: is this used to dowgrade back to 1.5 once I install 3.40 in case in the future there are higher upgrades? A walkthrough for this would be great too.

A huge thank you to everyone.

Okay download this easy installer first....

3.40 OE-A Easy Installer

Once downloaded connect your PSP via USB mode and then run the 3.40 OE-A Easy Installer. It will walk you through the whole process. When your done I would highly recommend installing the 1.5 Recovery Mode Easy Installer. It will also walk you through the process of getting everything installed. What the 1.5 Recovery thing does for you is this; should your PSP ever get bricked whether by bad homebrew or a screwed up firmware upgrade the 1.5 Recovery can usually save your PSP. I don't know quite enough about it to explain how it works but it does and its a life saver.

Here is the readme I got from that 3.40 OE-A easy installer I made the important parts red....

Quote:
Edited from DAX's orignal readme to this readme for easy install purposes:

3.40 Open Edition REvision A Easy Installer

Installation instructions:

Previous custom firmware users: Make sure your kernel is set to 1.50 in recovery mode. It's under configuration, then set the homebrew kernel to 1.50.

You need 75% battery, although you can skip this if you pressed L+triangle while loading the program. (Not suggested to skip battery check.)

Go to your PSP's game tab, then memstick, after running this easy installer. Run the firmware update... that simple.

Changes 3.30 OE-A -> 3.40 OE-A

- Updated from 3.30 firmware to 3.40

- Security patch: Fixed a bug that has been in all 3.XX OE, that caused random data to be written to a location
in lcdc.prx or (in worst case) emc_sm.prx ram space.

- Autboot that is missing since 3.03 OE-C has been reimplemented.

- Improvements in the flasher. It will now generate also the flash1 directories, and it will check that the dxar is the correct for this update, so no more bricks by accidentally using other DATA.DXAR.

Note about pops. I recommend people to backup their savedata before proceeding to change them
(Sony has changed the savedata format, and they force you to change the format in 3.40 if you want to play them).
If a plugin to load previous firmwares pops appear, the savedata will have to be in the old format for those firmwares,
that's why it is better to have a backup of them. Psx savedatas are in /PSP/SAVEDATA/[code of game]

Thanks to:
DAX for the custom firmware once again.
Team Reign for making this easy installer.

Hope this helps, also this part "Go to your PSP's game tab, then memstick, after running this easy installer" Should really be typed more like this....

After running the 3.40 OE-A Easy Installer go to your PSP's Game Tab, then memory stick, run the firmware update.

I read this and what I don?t understand is that I never had a 3.30 OE-A installed. My psp is brand new does this mean that the kernel is already set to 1.50 in recovery mode? Or do I still have to set the homebrew kernel to 1.50 manually?

This is how I see it, please correct me if I?m wrong:

Since I downgraded from 2.71 to 1.50 (never had any previous OE-A installed) all I have to do to install 3.40 OE-A, is to click on the ? 340oeEasy.exe? icon and follow the process as it tells me to do? Therefore, if I follow the steps correctly will the program automatically place the files in the right folders without me having to do it manually?

[quote]
"After running the 3.40 OE-A Easy Installer go to your PSP's Game Tab, then memory stick, run the firmware update."

I'm guessing this is where the 3.40 OE-A is installed and this is why I have to manually go to the memory stick and click on the 3.40 OE-A firmware to install the update?
(I don't know what it looks like but I presume it's something like: 3.40 OE-A firmware update)

In a custom firmware you have multiple kernels(basically what makes the PSP function, ex. kernel 1.5, kernel 3.03, etc.) to chose from but since you dont have a custom firmware you dont need to worry about it.

Correct, connect your PSP to your PC and put in USB mode. Run the 3.40 OE-A Easy Installer and it will automatically put the files for 3.40 OE-A in the correct spot.

Correct it puts the files in the correct spot but you the user have to manually start the update.First thing format your memory stick from the PSP menu. Then put the PSP in USB mode and run the 3.40 OE-A easy installer. Secondly, before you begin make sure you don't have a UMD in the drive, I recommend this just to make sure users, like yourself, don't accidentally run a update from a UMD game. So to upgrade to 3.40 OE-A start by (from the PSP's home screen) going to the "Game" tab, then scroll down to memory stick. And on it there should be a option to upgrade. I am not quite sure what it will say as I don't have a PSP but since you theres no UMD in your drive and since you formatted your memory stick before running the 3.40 OE-A Easy installer there should only be one option to upgrade. This should upgrade you to firmware 3.40 OE-A.

Post back after you have upgraded and I will explain what 1.5 Recovery Mode is.
