my computer (a dell) would recognize the drive but I wasn't able to do anything with the drive. If a CD or DVD was in the drive the computer would tell me that there was nothing in the drive. The button on the drive wouldn't work to open the door to the drive and the there was no way I could open the drive except by putting a paper clip in the little hole just below the tray that come out to open the drive so I could get the disk back.
Does anybody out there know anything about this problem?
i use DVD Shrink I put a DVD movie in the DVD drive. I then clicked on open disk on DVD Shrink. After that a meesage popped up saying that the region needs to be set. It gave me the only choice of region 1 ( the USA). All the other regions were grayed out. After I clicked on "okay" DVD Shrink said it could not read the disc. So then I went to go eject the disc, by pressing the eject button on the side of the DVD drive, but it would not eject the disk. I noticed that the green light on the drive was on and staying lite. In the owner's manual this means that the drive it busy.
Since this is a replacement burner from sony, I am not sure if I can return it. The first one stopped working it was not being read by my computer
I have already tried turning off the drive and disconnecting the USB. Also, unplugging the power cord and the USB from the drive for ten secondsand then reconnecting. I do not keep it connected to my computer when I am not using it per instructions from sony. I noticed that some one else had this problem a while back but I am not aware if the advise given helped them. It did not solve my issue
Thank you

DriveCheck Diagnostic
Please note the following:
The test may take up to 20 minutes to run.
Run this utility ONLY if directed by technical support to do so.
Ensure you have the latest firmware upgrade on the drive.
When running the test on a DVD-RW drive,
please ensure you are using media that is on the media compatibility list.
Sony DriveCheck Diagnostic Tool
There is a firmware Upgrade Version SS25.
It is for reliability improvements with 8cm DVD-R DL and compatibility with Windows Vista.

Sounds like the same problem. I would go back to Sony.

Did they have you run the DriveCheck Diagnostic Tool?
What type and brand disc are you using?
What software are you tring to burn with?
Post a burn log if you have one. Edit out serial number for Nero.

I had been using the DVD-R since I got the drive in March. I couldn't run the test. the door opens and ask me to put in a disk even when there is one in there. Contacted sony and was told to try DVD+R so I did and still get the same error message.
I am using nerosmart. I am not sure how to get to my burn log but if I can I will post it. I have to call sony again in the morning
Thank you

I had been using sony DVD-R and was told that I should be using DVD+R
I bought the new disks to see if that would help and it didn't still not reading so I sent the drive back to sony AGAIN. I was under the impression that the drive I had bought could use both - and +

- EDIT OUT the serial number.
As you have more then one burn logged in the logfile there are a few occurrences of the serial number
Each time you see
====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======
It is the start of a new log.
Most times you only need to post one.
edit
Try this tool.
Try running the Nero ASPI checker tool.
You are using a lot of memory when your tring to burn.
Cut down on running programs or surfing when burning.

=======================
I do not see your burner listed on the device map.
You have Nero using a Image Recorder.
