first off, do you have the big or slim PS2? and does it happen with a specific type of disc or with all types?

First off, this works sometimes. Try to put a piece of tape on the label side of the cd close to the middle by the hole without covering it. make like a square outline with tape. I will post pics if needed. The other site that could help you is this. You might also want to give Sony a call if your system still has the warranty sticker intact, they sometimes fix it, rare but sometimes (1-800-345-SONY)
