My slimline ps2 reads all cd based games and my backups of them fine but it doesn't play dvd backups or the original dvds.I use swap magic 3.6 by the way. However when i take the tape off my sensor( my tool c got bent in the post) it plays everything flawlessly so i know it's definitely not a laser issue. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The way I'm hearing this, when your slim PS2 is softmodded, your original PS2 CD-based games and your backups run fine; however, when you try to play your original PS2 DVD games and backups, neither work at all. Now, you said when you undo tissue and tape method, both your PS2 original games, whether they're on CDs, blue-colored, or on DVDs, they both work, correct? You might want to be more specific.

So basically, it sounds like the only problem you have is trying to play DVD backups. Have you used the correct Swap Magic disc to boot your DVD backups? Swap Magic DVD for PS2 DVD games, Swap Magic CD for PS2 CD-based games.

Edit: what DVD media brand did you burn your PS2 DVD games on? List the media ID you find on your DVD using DVD Decryptor.

Wow thanks for the quick reply. Yes that is correct i have trouble playing backups and originals with all tool of swap magic in. They load up fine but everything loads extremely slow however when i take it out everything plays fine. I am using Sony 6D1 DVD+R and -r 16X. Both made in India which i understand is first class media. However i have also ordered some verbatims which were made by Taiyo Yuden. However I am convinced it's not the media. My theory is the tape i stuck the sensor down with is somehow coming off slightly then sticking back down but this is not possible so I'm stumped. Tomorrow i will try some better tape and post back with results though any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh and by the way thanks for the help.

you may just want to invest in the proper tools like the Magic Keys II which may solve that. Sure the tape and tissue mod is free but that could also be the cause of the problem. If you do not choose to but the proper tool then i would uninstall the whole mod and re-do it.

Yes, the problem you've mentioned is probably it. I thought you did a proper tape method so I didn't automatically think it could be the problem although it's a problem I should have suggested. If your tape really has become so flimsy and randomly loosens in occasional spurts, you're better off buying the actual magic keys or using a straw. Here for how to use a straw.

But you know what? I doubt the tape is the only problem although you really should get that switch properly held or you'll have so many unnecessary problems later. Never use 16x DVDs besides Verbatim. Verbatim are the only known 16x DVDs I'll ever consider burning my games to if I'm left with no choice. I make it sound like Verbatim is bad but they aren't. I'm just too content with my Taiyo Yuden DVDs, that's all. Sure, Sony is good, but I've been quite unhappy how bad the quality is when burning games around 4.2 gigabytes on them Sony D21s but that's just me personally. The Sony 8x and below, however, are much better than their 16x stuff they got around though.

Edit: Oh by the way, unless you had a typo, those Sony 6D1s are not first class media it seems but might be indeed fakes based upon using this list I'm using. Might want to check and do a quality scan using Nero CD/DVD Speed and post a picture of your results.

Wow thanks for all the help guys but after fiddling around with my ps2 for ages i discovered it was my tool b from magic keys 2 which was scratching the disc. Fortunately a while ago i accidentally ordered the wrong set but the tool b of the wrong set worked like a charm so now everything is playing perfectly! Thanks for all the suggestions though it was very helpful.
