Hi, I'm just wondering if it's possible for me to brick a wii(US) by playing Pal or Japanese Gamecube games.
I know about the bricking using Wii games... but what about Gamecube games...
Thanks.

No, I don't think there are wii updates on the gamecube games..
So it means that I will be able to play Pal or Jap games on my wii with the region override option right? And there will be nothing that I have to worry about.
Thanks... Sorry, I just want to make sure.. I don't know..

Well if there is no Wii updates on GameCube games then what would you have to worry about?

I have some gamecube backups also..
I just burned the image files and they worked fine...
As from what I read, it's not necessary to run wiibrickblock on gamecube games as it doesn't contain wii updates so you should be fine.
However, I have not tried gamecube games from other regions. *I do assume though, you should be fine.

so, in conclusion. if i have a ntsc jap set... the 100% way to prevent it from bricking is to update it to 2.2. afterwards patch the iso with RegionFrii to ntsc/j and then patch with WiiBrickBlocker to prevent the update. am i right...

Hi, I'm new to wii. I live in Malaysia but bought a wii in Hong Kong. The model is RVL-001(USA). It is a US machine, alright. Prior to updating, I checked that my wii version was 2.0U. But, I got this silly question. How do I know if my wii is NTSC or PAL? I have been playing PAL games without problem. However, i updated the firmware while trying to play Big Brain Academy PAL version.
It got semi-bricked, I think. The wii settings doesn't work and gave an opera error message and BBA game jammed when I click start. Some other PAL games that I played previously are okay.
Anyone can help on issue of checking (i)PAL or NTSC wii? and (ii) BBA semi-bricked issue.
Thank you.

You have a US Wii because of the 2.0 U firmware. Also you got bricked because of the PAL game - that explains. Yes, not all games brick the console.

@ the members asking if a GameCube game can brick a Wii.
The guide clearly explains why a region brick occurs if members are to fuckin dumb/lazy to read then maybe you should sell your Wii.

Downloaded DK Taru Jet Race JAP to try unbrick my semi-bricked Japanese Wii. The game works fine but no update happened. Is it possible WiiBrickBlocker was run on that ISO? Is there a way to check and possibly undo the block? Or should I simply get the real thing from a store? The other option of course is that there is no update with this game. Do we know for sure the updates are there?
Thanks for any hint!

If you had read this thread, you will see I stated earlier that I personally tried DK Taru Jet Race and it did not unbrick. The game does NOT contain an update.

Yes I had read your comment, but you didn't specify which kind of copy you tried, original or downloaded. DK Taru Jet Race is made by Nintendo, so there was a good chance?
Do you know which game has the latest JAP update, if any?
Thanks!

This game had a 2.2U firmware on it just as BBA had a 2.2U firmware on it. So if you semi-bricked your Wii with the above games then your out of luck at this time.
So anyone that is looking for a game to unbrick their semi-bricked Wii system is waisting there time.
Nintendo hasn't released a firmware higher then 2.2 yet so no game disc will unbrick your semi-bricked Wii system. When they do come out with a higher firmware and release that firmware on a game disc you will then have a chance at recovering your Wii settings.

My Japanese Wii got semi-bricked by Super Paper Mario (USA). I read somewhere that this game has the 2.0U update. Is it correct or does it have the 2.2U like Pokemon and BBA?

I think Paper Mario has a 2.1U firmware.
So you should be able to unbrick your semi-bricked NTSC(J) Wii with a game disc that has a 2.2J firmware on it.

hi there, this is my first post.
i got my japanese wii in hong kong, and recently got it modded -- however, my vendor told me not to update the firmware, and not to play any games released past a specific date (somewhere in June 2007) so I'm somewhat scared to do anything to my wii for fear of bricking it, as it seemed that the firmware would actually interfere with the operation of the mod chip.
I've read this entire thread and have been lead to think otherwise, but I'd like some confirmations.
My wii is currently at 2.2 J, and to my understanding, if I continue updating the firmware to its most updated iteration, most games will not brick the wii (though I have to check on http://wiki.gbatemp.net/index.php?title=...8USA.29_to_PAL)
Then, the Wii Blocker program - does it only work with a self-burned copy of a game? Just burn it on together with the iso file that is being burned on? I'm not sure about this as well.
Thanks in advance, and sorry if i'm being redundant, as I'm confused by some of the stuff in here

You should always keep your Wii updated to the newest firmware. 2.2J is currently the newest.
You should also use Wii brick Blocker to disable the update on the game disc. Do this by loading the Wii ISO game into Wii Brick Blocker then patching it. Then burn the ISO to DVD.

thank you, larrylje, for your swift, concise and clear response!
so does this means that my wii will be "unbrickable" with the Wii Brick Blocker? also, I've been reading and can't distinguish between Wii Brick Blocker and Wiigion Free. Do they both serve to prevent the bricking of wiis?
What's the difference?
Thanks again.

Thank you larrylje for your reply. Tried Forever Blue JPN but to no avail, no updates occured even though this game was released on July 31st, therefore must contain 2.2J if it has updates. Maybe Paper Mario had 2.2U after all?
