I was wondering if someone could help me with this one. I'm trying to convert AVI file (DivX) to dvd for burning but the program is encountering errors. Either my computer will freeze during conversion or the program will run conversion for a few minutes (around 10-15 mins) then claim that the project is completed when that is not the case. only 10-15 mins of certain project (movie that runs 90-120mins)has been converted. is there a solution to this problem or is my computer and it's OS mashed-up?

I'm using the old version of VSO DivX to DVD 0.5.0.97. I've already tried to uninstall then reinstall. Also tried lastest VSO ConvertX to DVD and no dice. same problems happen. I use the old version cuz it's simple and fast and i've never had any problems with it in the past. it has pretty much converted everything i've asked it to. i've also tried differnet types of files thinking it was the original video file itself but the same problem occur with other projects. i've recently had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall OS and all other goodies. I'm running Win XP SP2.... Pentium 4 @ 2.40 Ghz.... 512 ram.

Here is the log:

If it's different files with different programs it seems to rule out either as the problem.
Does the Task Manager indicate a shortage of resources caused by too many apps running?Seems to me that conversion is pretty high cpu use.

And looking at the CPU temp during conversion would rule that out as a possible source.

thank you for your response, attar.

tried the monitor program and noticed that the CPU temp was running
in the red at about 71.0 C. the CPU could be overheating and shutting down. i have to find a way to prevent this. also, the task manager shows that the CPU usage is running at 100% during conversion.

Mine rarely runs above mid 40's.
Your CPU fan is probably plugged - just need to blow it out.

You should also update the software. With VSO you can easily do this for free to the latest version. Or download and install the latest version from here. It will contain many bug fixes. When I use DivXtoDVD I don't allow any other programs to run because any conversion software will use up a lot of CPU, and you run the risk of creating errors.
