Well i've been trying to dual boot xp and ubuntu of the last few weeks and i've read all the guides etc. So i had two partitions for windows, so i took a 15.50gb partition(C) for ubuntu... When I tried to install it, it stopped at 91% and wouldn't go any more so when that happened i deleted the partiton and put it back on my other windows partition (D) and for some reason now windows wont read the Partition (D) so i get the blue screen of death every time i boot up and booting up takes at least 20 mins so any help would be great!!!!!!!!!!!!
HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!

Well, depending on the sizes of your drive, you can chose FAT32 or NTFS.
FAT32 can't see more than a certain size (32GB per partition). NTFS is more secure, and most people use it for there XP installations.
NTFS has a limitation to 16TB (terabytes), thats a bit more than that FAT32 isn't it!
And to top it all off, NTFS is more stable and reliable than FAT32, with FAT32 drives much more susceptible to disk errors.
EDIT: Glad you were able to format it!
If you want to try and recover data from your previous partition, I suggest finding some File Recovery software. It might not be able to bring every file back, but it can help a lot for those all important pieces of work!
Hope that helps :)

BootMe, your info on fat32 is wrong. fat32 can read a partition far past 32gig as i've set 1 up on a 25ogig sata hd as 1 partition. my 160gig is fat32 but in 2 partitions, 40gig for windows & 120gig for data. the advantage ntfs has over fat32 is that fat32 cannot read a file over 4gig in size such as a dvd movie. i prefer fat32 over ntfs as i can boot off a win9x bootdisk when fixing a xp problem when you can't do it in a normal way.

Really?
I really thought it could only see 32GB, wow.
In that case, thank you for correcting me!
But I guess the stuff about NTFS is right, with it being more stable and such?
reloadSE, ddp is saying that he's successfully got a 250GB hard drive with 1 partition formatted as FAT32. He also says that the disadvantage of FAT32, is that it cannot read a file over 4GB (such files as DVD's).
Again, hope that helps.

bootme, i don't think it has to do with stability as your os determines whether it is stable not the format type.
