Its just that the newer games require v3.5 as does this Ratatoullie game I got for the kids. Its not the end of the world if I dont use it, but it would be nice to be able to play it and still do the homebrews off of the downgrade.

that's the beauty of custom firmware. it keeps up with the latest firmware, and has the ability to do homebrew.

as you go up in official firmware, it becomes harder to downgrade. that's why it's best to downgrade now.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

Alright, I'm done with classes for the day and can give you an in depth guide on what you need to do in order to keep your homebrew but be able to have all the functionality of newer firmwares.

cee43ja1 is right, custom firmware is the way to go.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Here's a list of what we're going to accomplish:

1+Upgrade to 2.71.

2+Downgrade to a 1.50 PSP because it is the only official firmware that can run applications.

3+Determine which custom firmware you would like to update to.

4+Upgrade to that custom firmware.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Here are some terms that I will use that you may need to know:

1-ROOT OF THE MEMORY STICK
If looked at on a computer, the root would appear something like: "x:/". In other words, this is the folder that first appears when you open your PSP on the computer. For example, mine is "Removable Disc (E:/)." After opening up "Removable Disc (E:/)", I am at the root of the memory stick.

2-FIRMWARE
This is the version number of your PSP, such as 1.50, 2.70, 3.50, et cetera... Sony releases updates to firmware in order to add functionality and security to the device.

3-CUSTOM FIRMWARE
This is firmware made by hackers and not by Sony. They allow you to play homebrew as well as keep all the functions of Sony's official firmware.

4-DOWNGRADE
This is, as implied, the opposite of upgrading your system and makes your firmware lower rather than higher. We would want to do this because the earlier firmwares were hacked and can play homebrew applications.

-------------------------------------------------------------

DOWNLOADS

You are going to need a lot of files in order to optimize your PSP. I have uploaded all of the necessary files for you so that you don't have to search for them yourself. The download for the necessary files is here in compressed .zip format; you will have to decompress them with a program such as WinRAR or 7-Zip--you probably already have one of them on your computer. For right now, only download the NECESSARY FILES, you can download one of the others after you figure out which one you want.

NECESSARY FILES
NECESSARY FILES

CUSTOM FIRMWARES
3.40 OE-A
After downloading it, follow the guide HERE.

3.52 M33\
::::::::::-This guide will teach you how to get to either.
3.71 M33/

-------------------------------------------------------------

1+Upgrade to 2.71.

In order to downgrade, your PSP needs to be at version 2.71, simply because it was the closest version to yours that was hacked. In the folder that I gave you, open up "Step One" and copy the folder named "PSP" into the root of your memory stick. It will ask you if you want to overwrite. Click on "Yes to All"--it won't actually overwrite anything, it'll just add files.

After you do this, disconnect your PSP from the computer and scroll over to the Game icon. Click on the Memory Stick at the very bottom and run the 2.71 Update application that should be at the top. Follow the on-screen instructions and you will update to 2.71.

-------------------------------------------------------------

2+Downgrade to a 1.50 PSP because it is the only official firmware that can run applications.

First, you need to figure out what version PSP motherboard you have. Check to see if you have numbers on your motherboard as shown in this picture:

Open up "Step Two" inside of the "NECESSARY FILES" folder. If you do have the code IC1003, or anything else here, then you will use the files in the TA-082 folder, otherwise use the files in the TA-079 folder.

No matter which version you have, select all of the files in the corresponding folder, so that they are all highlighted, right click on any one of them, and then click on Copy. Open up the root of your memory stick, right click anywhere that is empty, and then click on Paste. Again, click on "Yes to All" if it asks you to overwrite anything.

The process is different if you have a TA-082 than if you have a TA-079, so I'll split off into two different parts here. Just follow the one with the same version of your PSP.

-TA-079---(NO NUMBERS)---------------------------

1-Connect the AC Adapter to your PSP so that it is charging.

2-On your PSP, go to the PHOTO icon and press Triangle, and then click on Slideshow.

3-A couple of things might happen, your screen might turn red. If it does this, turn of your PSP and try again. Your screen also might turn blue or green, this means that it worked and the PSP will reset itself.

4-Go to the Game icon and click using X on the Memory Stick icon that is at the bottom.

5-Run the program UPDATE X.YZ -- Make sure that your battery power is greater than 75% or the application won't work.

6-If everything goes well then it will display something like this: Doing preparationsandExtracting special PRXs.

7-The screen will change to a reddish color, hit X.

8-When the progress is complete, it will ask you to click on X. Do so and your PSP will restart--you should now be at 1.50.

-TA-082---(NUMBERS)------------------------------

1-Connect the AC Adapter to your PSP so that it is charging.

2-On your PSP, go to the PHOTO icon and press Triangle, and then click on Slideshow.

3-A couple of things might happen, your screen might turn red. If it does this, turn of your PSP and try again. Your screen also might turn blue or green, this means that it worked and the PSP will reset itself.

4-Go to the GAME menu and and run 1.50enabler.

5-It'll ask you to press X to alter your keys, click on it and do not do anything until it says you can run 1.50.

6-When the program exits, Go to the Game icon and click using X on the Memory Stick icon that is at the bottom.

7-Run the program UPDATE X.YZ -- Make sure that your battery power is greater than 75% or the application won't work.

8-If everything goes well then it will display something like this: Doing preparationsandExtracting special PRXs.

9-The screen will change to a reddish color, hit X.

10-When the progress is complete, it will ask you to click on X. Do so and your PSP will restart--you should now be at 1.50.

-------------------------------------------------------------

3+Determine which custom firmware you would like to update to.

This step is pretty easy. Each one of these custom firmware's was made by the same person, Dark_aleX. He's a trustworthy source when it comes to custom firmware.

Here are the pros and cons of each:

3.40 OE-A
Pros: It's the most stable of all of these--all homebrew applications will work on it.
Cons: It's getting fairly old and some newer games don't work on it.

3.52 M33
Pros: Mostly every game out will run on 3.52 M33--it's quite stable and will run all homebrew applications.
Cons: You'll have to upgrade to 3.52 M33-4 in order to get the most stable version--it takes more time and effort.

3.71 M33
Pros: It's the newest and every single official game will run on it. It's about as stable as 3.52 M33.
Cons: It requires extra work to get homebrew games to run on it.

-------------------------------------------------------------

4+Upgrade to that custom firmware.

After deciding which one you want (I recommend 3.71 M33), follow the links in the download section above and, since Afterdawn already have wonderful guides on how to upgrade, just follow them (the links to the guides are posted in the download section in my guide above.)

-------------------------------------------------------------

There you have it, I hope what I've posted is helpful!

I am extremely grateful for the time you took to post that. I am certain that many others will find that condensed version very helpful. I am curious as to how 3.71 M33 makes the homebrew difficult to run and will search on that topic. Thanks again for taking the time. I will try it out in the next couple of days.

Well I tried, but encountered a glitch. I already had version 2.71 so skipped to downgrade section. I have the ta 082 and proceeded as directed. When I got to the step to play the 1.5 enabler, I get a grey screen saying the game could not be started (80020148) Any ideas?

Sorry, got it working now. I didnt see where it says you had to have the usb disconnected. Even though I was out of usb mode, it wouldnt let me run enabler with the usb physically connected. Everything working great so far.
