So, I had an .nrg file of the PAL version of GTA:San Andreas...I turned the .nrg file to a .mds file which worked perfect, the game played flawlessly, but it was black and white and the screen was off center because it was PAL.

So I used the tutorial on this site for converting PAL to NTSC. I realized I needed to turn the .mds to a .iso first. So I did that, then I did what I needed to do with the .iso to make it NTSC instead of PAL.

I did that, I turned it into an NTSC game, and burned it.

Now, the game is running fine, and its in color, but when it gets to the main title screen where it says "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas", it freezes. I press buttons and nothing happens...

I'm using Maxell DVD+R disks. And don't say use DVD-R because my burner only supports +R. I burned it at 2x speed with Dvd Decryptor. I'm using one of the latest ps2 slim models, and I'm using Swap magic. Not a modchip.

I'm not sure what I did wrong, I'm thinking of maybe buying Verbatim disks, but Maxell is good because I have a backup of another game that is 100% working.

So, any ideas on what I should do?

i had some problems with games too but i found the best solution and it is when you burn your game using DVD Decrypter on the right hand side you will see the speed tab click it and a dropdown menu will come up and select 1x and burn your game it is the slowest speed possible and it will burn the game as if it were pressed FLAwLESS!

Either burn at half the supported speed of the rated disc, at a set speed of 4x or burn at only the speeds that your Maxell DVD+Rs can support which is mentioned in the right hand side along with the burn speed adjuster.

Edit: Could try a DVD media brand switch to Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim if all else fails. I think I answered your previous thread too about something but I don't recall.

Patching does not always work. Best thing to do is stick with NTSC releases.

Swap Magic does support a forced video mode. Even if you force the game to whatever region your TV/PS2 is, it may still be off center or in black and white.

If you have Swap Magic you can try the following:
1 - Put swap magic in the drive and load it up.
2 - When prompted, use your disc swapping method to change Swap Magic for your backup game
3 - Using the Swap Magic menu on-screen, change the program loading option from 'NORMAL' to either 'PAL' or 'NTSC' depending on which you would like to boot your program as.
4 - Hit OK when you have selected the correct option.
5 - The game will load as normal but will boot your CD/DVD images in the required mode.

I've done all that and it still just freezes at the title screen. Should I burn at 1x? Cause it would be perfect that way, right?

Maybe your game is incompatible with NTSC or PAL forcing.

If all else fails, switch to Verbatim. Lowering the burn speed to 1x on a 16x DVD isn't going to help although you never know until you at least test it out. You'd be surprised what a simple DVD brand swap could do for you and your games.
