I just have a question. I'm a newbie with PS2 mods. I knew about it for a very long time, but never took the time, but recently, I got into it, and just want to do things the best I can, so here's my question... I hope it helps other's too.

What is the best program to use for burning PS2 Games? I know the speed limits and such, but what is the best program in everyone's opinion? I've been using Nero 7, and MagicISO to create iso files for ROMS for burning. Everything is good, but once in a while, my burns of ROMS or PS2 Backups seem to have loading difficulties. Yes, it may be my laser wearing out, or that I'm using DVD+RW's, but generally, what do you consider the best program, and the easiest most straight forward method?

Here's another question... I know the bigger the .iso, the more you can compress it, but is there a readable method for playing backups while compressing to fit on to a 700mb CD-r if the game is based on DVD within the GB sizes, like around 1.6 - 4.3 GBs, and what software will enable me to shrink it to CD-size and be legible to the PS2?

Thank you.

Your PS2 is modded right?

NEVER use DVD+RW's to burn PS2 games. Go buy Sony's DVD-Rs.

You need to use SONIX tool or Gnie tool or whatever to keep rebuliding them or something. You can also use ISO buster.

Actually I just use Swap Magic 3.8 coder version with the slider tool. Soldering an actual mod makes me very nervous and uneasy. I feel if I bought one, I'd be lost and damage my PS2. I don't even know the difference between all these different mod chips.

I know. I know. It's bad. It kills the laser much faster, and since I've had my PS2 for nearly 5 or 6 years, I already can use a new one.

I've heard some indecent things about Sony discs. I've heard a lot of good things from some Japanese name brand that starts with a 'Y' and forgot the name of it, and heard Verbatim is great also. I was thinking of getting Sony though anyway since Sony makes PS2. I just figured I need a 8x or so Sony disc, and nothing higher.

Thanks a lot. I'm gonna check those out ASAP and see what I can do.

Thank you for all of your feedback.

I personally use Taiyo Yuden exclusively to gaming. If you really must use 16x DVDs, go for Verbatim. As far as performance for 16x DVDs go, Taiyo Yuden is a close second behind Verbatim. I really don't recommend Sony unless you stick to their 8x or below DVDs. I've had unsuccessful boot rates and bad quality results when I wanted to burn specific games that require the use of space around the 4 gigabyte area such as Tales of the Abyss, Final Fantasy 12 and Valkyrie Profile Silmeria using Sony DVDs in general although it's different for everyone like what media Omirsama uses.

It really depends what program best works for you and your personal preference. I can even use Roxio to burn my ISOs and perform as well as DVD Decryptor, but I choose the latter one because of mere convenience and reliability. There's also IMG Burn that's like a direct descendant of DVD Decryptor (the same creator I believe).

Don't bother using those either. It's almost as bad as using bad quality media, but it isn't THAT close but close enough to rate the damage on the same level.

There's no way you can shrink a game like FF12 onto a mere CD. Unless there were dummy files present in a game like Guilty Gear X2, which has about 2 gigabytes worth of unnecessary space-taker files, you can't shrink a lot of games. And about what Omirsama was saying, there's no way you can repeatedly use the Gnie tool to compress the file into such a size no matter how many times you do so.

Edit: What games are you thinking about shrinking? Not ALL games will let you. Most games in general won't let you do that actually.
