Ok I have been using DVDshrink and DVDxcopy express I really havent had any problems except for one. But the main reason I am posting is because I can take a brand new dvd and back it up with both of those programs and when I try and play it in my standalone some of them skip like hell. I am curious if there are other programs that may take longer but do a good transfer from the DVD to HD then back to DVDR. I have no clue is to what try. Any suggestion would be greatly appericated.

Hi
I would think it is your dvd player not the method that is at fault. Try playing the same dvd on another player to see if it still skips.
Remember not all dvd players are the same

I have a JVC dvd but it might be that I really have no clue they some work great in others and some dont. I am using a generic media I used Maxell and it did the same with some rips. I was just curious if there was other rippers that do a good rip.

This is a very common problem.....
Generally, the ripping process is not at fault, unless there are TONNES of scratches.....you can check this out by playing the ripped files in programs such as powerdvd etc....if it skips then do not burn it..cos the source media is bad.....unusual for this to happen, but it sometimes can...
The stripping and re-authoring process is usually reliable in terms of producing good solid data....
The burner is designed to burn to dvd's at a certain speed setup by it's firmware and in conjunction with the media's speed that is used....
Your problem (to me) just seems to be down to media not being compatible........
Also it seems to be better when you burn to dvd to make sure you do not burn the FULL blank media (ie the full 4.7Gb) as alot of standalones do have trouble reading the outer circumference of the disc, due to speed mainly...
I use DVD2One, and always compress to 4440Mb, this leaves approx 2-3mm of unburned area of the dvd, and my standaones prefer this than the outer circumference.....
Media is always an issue mainly due to reflectivity, and laser power fluctuations.....this causes GREATER error correction for the laser to adjust to, and therefore causes missed data transfer - resulting in skipping/freezing....this error correction GETS worse as the laser traverses towards the outer circumference.....
Some may disagree with my comment, but it is my opinion.......
Look for some more reliable media, like ritek GO4, these are favourites in my book, but others use different media with good success....

Does ritek make +RW cause I couldnt find those and thats all my standalone will use. I will try using powerdvd before I burn. I just really didnt want to have to watch the movie twice was all. But you are advice was great. More of an outlook I have then I did before. Anyone with more advice will glady be accepted. I need as much info as i can get. Thanks again all of you that replied.

You could try AnyDVD which decrypts the DVD on-the-fly saving HD space. A good program to use in conjunction with it is CloneDVD. This program will transcode your DVD so it will fit on a 4.7GB DVD5 disc.
AnyDVD will also work with the other two programs but is not generally needed as they have there own built-in decrption.
Worth a try!

It's not that hard to find just type in anydvd in your search bar and click go!!!!!!!!!!

Shitbreak, it may be that you are using RW discs. It is better to use a DVD R than and RW as standalones will accept them on a more regular basis.

I have no choice my standalone only plays RW. AnyDvd that programs is horrible in my opinion its has all kinds of spyware. Thank but not thanks.
