PAL backups on NTSC systems: do they work?

Hey guys have a quick question. I've seen files on torrent sites stating that the files PAL but not region coded-- ppl with NTSC consoles have posted saying the work for them. My question is, does the 360 not use different signals for PAL and NTSC games? or does it depend on the game? hope someone can clear this up for me! Thanks again!

IF YOU HAVE A NTSC Console - Any PAL Game BUT THEY HAVE TO BE Region Free will work on a NSTC Console (Any Games that is region free) will work.

but if the PAL version isnt region free, it wont work on a NTSC console; only PAL.
