I believe someone had a similar problem as you but I forgotten where that thread went. What he did though was solder some points in for what the switch would have done if it were still there and intact.

What fuse did you change? Did you check the SMD fuses on the ps2 motherboard?

Theres a scorch mark near ps13 but its also near ps3 BUT on closer inspection its possible that it could be a component on the opposite side but theres another metal plate covering it so i dont know and im not going messing.Anyway ive jusyt taken it to a local electrical repairers to get it fixed as im certain its only a fuse and by the looks of things it seems not TOO specific that i would need a specialist in consoles as they can replace things like that.
Thanks for your thoughts and advice,it is really appreciated.

P.s. If it is just one fuse thats gone or say two at the most and there smd's,what should i expect to pay to have them supplied and fitted.
I know you cant be too accurate and areas of the country probably differ but what is fair.I suppose it would be easier to tell me what is too much to pay?!
If this is an impossible question to answer (approx) then obviously dont waste your time but if you can give a rough estimate so i know if i'm getting RIPPED! that would be great.
Cheers.

Sorry i'm in the uk!
I don't think its that severe and he has had a shop doing repairs on everything from tv's to computers for at least 20 years.I explained what happened and he seemed pretty confident. At the end of the day he will just test each fuse til' one comes up faulty and replace it,my only real question was whether the components are universal or designed specifically for the Ps2 but smd fuses are smd fuses it seems.
Anyway thanks for your help, when i first started this thread i was contemplating attempting the repair myself but i'm so relieved that i hav'nt now.
I might have to pay but at least if it does go pop again its there problem!
Cheers.

TV repair shops here in the UK are a rip off, lol, anyway, you should not give anymore than 25-35, you can get another slimline of ebay for around 40-60, so there is no point. And yeah, SMD fuses are not specific, as long as the right rating fuses are installed, it will be fine.
